Why Buy a 2001 Nissan Engine from Auto Power Source
The single most useful thing to know before you buy a 2001 Nissan engine is that the Pathfinder changes engines inside this one model year. We hold both: the 3.3L VG33E at VIN A and the 3.5L VQ35DE at VIN D, in the same R50 body. They are not interchangeable — different block, different accessory drive, different mounts and wiring — so the badge on the tailgate settles nothing. The printed code or your VIN does.
The 4th VIN digit D is the widest letter of this model year and it carries three unrelated engines. It is the 3.5L VQ35DE in the Pathfinder, the 2.4L KA24DE truck four in the Frontier and the Xterra, and the 2.4L KA24DE again in the transverse Altima, and it is also half our 1.8L Sentra stock on the QG18DE. Letter C doubles as well: the 3.0L VQ30DE in the Maxima and the other half of the 1.8L Sentras. Give us the printed code if your listing carries one, and your own VIN either way.
The 1.8L Sentra is the clearest example of why the letter settles nothing in 2001. We hold four of them, all the same QG18DE, and they sit under two different letters: two at VIN C and two at VIN D, split by XE and GXE trim rather than by displacement or gearbox. A later year would tell you C means 1.8 litres. On 2001 stock it does not. The 2.0L SR20DE Sentra sits beside them at VIN B on its final Sentra year.
The 3.3L VG33E comes in two installations and they are not interchangeable. Longitudinal in the Frontier, the Xterra and the Pathfinder — two letters, E and A, one layout — and transverse in the Quest minivan, where the code is printed in the 8th VIN digit rather than the 4th. The oil pan, sump, brackets and intake routing differ between the two, so we hold them as separate family rows and label each by the donor vehicle's layout.
The truck line is the steady part of this year. A 2001 Frontier or Xterra is one of three things: 3.3L VG33E at VIN E, the same 3.3L supercharged at VIN M, or 2.4L KA24DE at VIN D. Those three run on unchanged through 2002, 2003 and 2004, so 2001 through 2004 truck units do interchange. 2005 moves to the 4.0L VQ40DE and the 2.5L QR25DE and shares none of them. The supercharged 3.3L is never offered as a substitute for the ordinary one in either direction.
Every engine here is used OEM from a low-mileage donor vehicle, compression-tested cylinder by cylinder with a leak-down evaluation, photographed from multiple angles for your approval before it leaves the warehouse, and shipped free with up to a 3-year warranty. We match the donor VIN to your VIN internally so the calibration, emissions package and gearbox pairing line up.
