Why Buy a 2012 Nissan Engine from Auto Power Source
2012 is the last year of the R51 Pathfinder, and the only kind of year where one Nissan nameplate hands you two completely different engines. We hold both: the 4.0L VQ40DE at VIN A and the 5.6L VK56DE V8 at VIN B. From 2013 the Pathfinder became a unibody with a transverse 3.5L VQ35DE and a CVT, so a 2012 and a 2013 Pathfinder share a badge and nothing else. Give us the year and the fourth VIN digit.
The 2012 Sentra is the clearest case here of a VIN letter doing real work. One car, three engines: the 2.0L MR20DE at VIN A in two emissions packages, the 2.5L QR25DE at VIN B with the CVT, and the same QR25DE at VIN C with the manual. The letter follows the gearbox, so a 2.5L Sentra engine ordered on litres alone is a coin flip.
The 2.5L QR25DE itself runs two ways in 2012: across the bay in the Altima, Rogue and Sentra, north-south in the Frontier. The long block is close; the sump, mounts, brackets and intake routing are not, and a car unit will not drop into the truck. We publish two family rows rather than one, so what you are buying is stated rather than averaged.
Four of our 2012 5.6L V8s name no engine code at all. The Titan and Armada listings carry the displacement and a fuel letter only, VIN A unleaded and VIN B flex, while the Pathfinder and NV vans name the VK56DE outright. The displacement matches and in all likelihood the engine does too, but we publish the codeless units on their own row because we will not sell you a code the listing does not carry.
Every unit is a used OEM engine from a low-mileage donor vehicle, pulled and inspected before listing. Our ASE-certified technicians compression-test every cylinder and run a leak-down evaluation; the direct-injected MR16DDT gets its high-pressure fuel pump and oil-control circuit checked, and the Leaf's EM61 is bench-tested as a drive assembly. We match the donor VIN to your VIN before anything ships, and US freight is free with a warranty included.

2012 Nissan Engine Buying Guide
5 things to verify before buying a used 2012 Nissan engine:
-
Read the engine code, then the layout. On 2012 Nissan stock the code is only half the answer. A 2.5L QR25DE out of a Frontier is mounted north-south; the same code out of an Altima, Rogue or Sentra sits across the bay. Give us the model and we will hand you the right orientation, not just the right litres.
-
On a Pathfinder, check the fourth VIN digit first. The 2012 Pathfinder was sold with two unrelated engines, the 4.0L VQ40DE at VIN A and the 5.6L VK56DE V8 at VIN B. It is the last year of that body, so a 2013 part number is no guide.
-
Confirm the fuel calibration on the 5.6L V8s. Titan and Armada listings give the displacement and a VIN letter without naming a code: VIN A unleaded, VIN B flex fuel. The Pathfinder and NV van V8s do name the VK56DE. Treat the two sets as separate until the VIN says otherwise.
-
Confirm Federal versus California emissions on the small fours. The 2.0L MR20DE in the Sentra and the 1.8L MR18DE in the Cube are each listed as separate units for the two emissions packages. The long block is common; the calibration, plumbing and catalyst arrangement are not, and a mismatch can fail an inspection.
-
Confirm the match with your own VIN before you order. Your VIN settles the engine code, the orientation, the fuel calibration, the gearbox split and the emissions package in one step. Text it to +1-307-441-5554 and we will confirm in writing which unit fits before you pay.
Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any unit ships.
