Why Buy a 2009 Nissan Engine from Auto Power Source
2009 is the crossover year in the Z line, and it is the reason this page is sorted by code. The outgoing 350Z Convertible carries the 3.5L VQ35HR and the brand-new 370Z carries the 3.7L VQ37VHR, both in live stock at the same time. Alongside them sits the ordinary 3.5L VQ35DE in the Murano, Maxima, Altima 3.5 and Quest. Three V6s, two of them nominally 3.5 litres, and only the code separates them.
The VQ35HR is not a VQ35DE with a different badge. It runs a different top end, different cam timing and a different intake, and it was fitted to the Z and not to the sedans. We hold it as its own family row and never offer it as a substitute for a sedan 3.5L, or the other way round.
The Pathfinder question is still live on 2009. The R51 body took the 4.0L VQ40DE at VIN A and the 5.6L VK56DE V8 at VIN B in the same year, sharing no mounts, accessory drive or wiring. A badge search shows you both; a VIN match shows you one.
The 2.5L QR25DE is one code in two installations, which is the recurring pattern on this brand. It is transverse in the Altima, Rogue and Sentra and longitudinal in the Frontier, so the pan, sump, brackets and intake routing differ. We keep two family rows and label each by the donor's layout rather than by displacement. The 5.6L V8 listings split another way again: the Titan and Armada rows carry only the fuel letter, A unleaded and B flex, while the Pathfinder 5.6 row carries VK56DE. We do not read the code across between them.
Every engine here is used OEM from a low-mileage donor vehicle, compression-tested cylinder by cylinder with a leak-down evaluation, photographed from multiple angles for your approval before it leaves the warehouse, and shipped free with up to a 3-year warranty. We match the donor VIN to your VIN internally so the calibration, emissions package and gearbox pairing line up.

2009 Nissan Engine Buying Guide
5 things to verify before buying a used 2009 Nissan engine:
-
Read the engine code, not just the litres. On 2009 Nissan stock the printed code is the only reliable identifier. VQ35DE, VQ35HR, VQ37VHR, VQ40DE, VK56DE, QR25DE, MR20DE, MR18DE and HR16DE all appear, and several share a VIN letter. Give us the code if you have it.
-
Separate the two 3.5 litre V6s before anything else. The 350Z Convertible runs the high-rev VQ35HR at VIN B; the Murano, Maxima, Altima 3.5 and Quest run the VQ35DE. Same displacement, different engine. The 370Z's 3.7L VQ37VHR is a third unit again.
-
Settle the Pathfinder question. VIN A is the 4.0L VQ40DE and VIN B is the 5.6L VK56DE V8, both in the 2009 R51. Decide which you have before comparing prices, because the two are not alternatives for each other.
-
Check the installation and the fuel letter, not only the engine. A 2.5L QR25DE out of a Frontier is mounted longitudinally and one out of an Altima transversely: same code, different pan, brackets and intake routing. On the Titan and Armada 5.6L rows the 4th VIN digit is a fuel letter only, A unleaded and B flex, so it settles the fuel system, not the displacement.
-
Confirm the match with your own VIN before you order. Send us the VIN from your vehicle and we will confirm the engine, calibration and fitment against it before anything is picked or shipped. Text +1-307-441-5554 or call 1-877-313-8995.
Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any unit ships.
