Why Buy a 2018 Nissan Engine from Auto Power Source
2018 is the year to check the letter rather than the badge, because on a 2018 Nissan the same 4th-digit letter means different engines on different nameplates. VIN A is the 1.8L MRA8DE on a Sentra, the 2.5L QR25DE on a Rogue or Altima, the 3.5L VQ35DE on a Murano or Maxima and the 5.6L V8 on a Titan. VIN B is the 2.0L MR20DD on a Rogue Sport, the 4.0L VQ40DE on an NV van, the 2.5L QR25DE on a Frontier, the 3.5L VQ35DE on an Altima and the 5.0L Cummins diesel on a Titan XD. The letter is only meaningful alongside the model.
The Altima's 2018 lineup is the one most people get wrong. It is the final year the Altima used the 2.5L QR25DE, and the final year an Altima could be had with a V6 at all - the 3.5L VQ35DE at VIN B. From 2019 the redesigned car dropped both for the PR25DD and the KR20DDET VC-Turbo, so a 2018 and a 2019 Altima badged 2.5 share no engine hardware.
The Rogue is where one engine code splits four ways. All four Rogue QR25DE units carry the same code at the 4th digit and are separated at the FIRST digit of the VIN - J Japan-built, K Korea-built, 5 USA-built - and the Japan-built pair splits again on a 03/31/18 build date. Brackets, sensor connectors and emissions hardware follow the plant and the build date, so both are part of the match.
The two 3.5L V6s and the two 2.0L fours ran side by side and are not interchangeable. VQ35DD in the Pathfinder (VIN D) is direct injected; VQ35DE in the Murano, Maxima and Altima is port injected. MR20DD in the Rogue Sport, Rogue Hybrid and Canada-market Qashqai is direct injected; MR20DE in the NV200 taxi and cargo vans (VIN C) is port injected. Same displacement, different fuel system, different wiring.
Every 2018 Nissan engine here is a used OEM unit from a low-mileage donor vehicle, compression-tested and leak-down checked before listing. The direct-injected MR16DDT and MR20DD units get an extra pass on the high-pressure fuel pump and oil-control circuit; VQ and VK engines get a timing-chain review. 2018 also holds a diesel - the Titan XD's 5.0L Cummins V8, given its own family row rather than folded into the 5.6L gasoline V8. Photographs go to you for approval before anything ships.

2018 Nissan Engine Buying Guide
5 things to verify before buying a used 2018 Nissan engine:
-
Read the 4th digit of the VIN together with the model. On a 2018 Nissan the 4th digit is the engine code, but the same letter means different engines on different cars. VIN B is the 2.0L MR20DD on a Rogue Sport, the 4.0L VQ40DE on an NV van, the 2.5L QR25DE on a Frontier, the 3.5L VQ35DE on an Altima and the 5.0L Cummins diesel on a Titan XD. Derive it per model, never per letter.
-
On a Rogue, check the FIRST digit and the build date too. All four Rogue QR25DE units are coded alike at the 4th digit and differ at the 1st - J Japan, K Korea, 5 USA - and the Japan-built pair splits again thru 03/31/18 versus from 04/01/18. Plant and build date are part of the match.
-
Separate the two 3.5L V6s and the two 2.0L fours. VQ35DD (Pathfinder, VIN D) is direct injected, VQ35DE (Murano and Maxima at VIN A, Altima at VIN B) port injected. MR20DD (Rogue Sport VIN B, Rogue Hybrid VIN E, Qashqai) is direct injected, MR20DE (NV200, VIN C) port injected. Displacement alone is not a match.
-
On a Titan XD, confirm gasoline or diesel first. The 2018 Titan XD was sold with the 5.6L VK56VD gasoline V8 at VIN A and the 5.0L Cummins V8 turbo-diesel at VIN B in the same body. Nothing is shared - not the block, mounts or fuel system.
-
Confirm the match with your own VIN before you order. Your VIN settles the engine code, drivetrain and build split in one step. Text it to +1-307-441-5554 and we will confirm in writing exactly which unit fits your vehicle before you pay.
Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any unit ships.
