Why Buy Jeep Engines from Auto Power Source
Jeep shares its engine portfolio with the wider Stellantis family — Pentastar 3.6L V6 and HEMI V8s come from Mopar's Dodge/Chrysler/Ram lineup, the EcoDiesel 3.0L V6 is built by VM Motori in Italy, and the Hurricane 2.0L turbo and 2.4L Tigershark are Fiat-engineered units. That cross-pollination is great for parts availability but treacherous for swaps: the 3.6L Pentastar alone has gone through multiple revisions since 2011 — early VVT solenoid issues, cylinder head fixes for cooling, and the 48-volt eTorque hybrid variant on later Wranglers. The 5.7L HEMI shares displacement with the SRT-tuned 6.4L and the supercharged 6.2L Hellcat (Trackhawk) — they are not interchangeable, and the wrong block won't bolt to your transmission. The classic 4.0L AMC inline-six is one of the most bulletproof engines ever sold in a Jeep, but TJ, ZJ, and XJ versions have different intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds, and accessory drives that need to match your application.
Our 445+ Jeep engines have each been pulled from low-mileage donor vehicles, cataloged by VIN, and held in our climate-controlled warehouse pending sale. Each unit clears our six-step process: VIN-matched to donor and target, ASE-certified compression test on every cylinder, leak-down evaluation, run-stand noise & smoke verification, full visual inspection of the long-block plus accessories and harnesses, multi-angle photographs sent for your approval, and palletized freight shipping. HEMI engines get extra MDS solenoid verification; EcoDiesel units get fuel-system pressure checks; Hurricane 2.0T units get oil-dilution and timing-chain assessment specific to that platform.
You pay a fraction of dealer-new pricing for identical Mopar engineering, ship free on a heavy-duty pallet to any address in the continental U.S., and you have 30 days from delivery to return for any reason — no restocking fees, no return freight charges. Up to a 3-year warranty covers you after install, and our six-step inspection has held our fitment-related return rate at 0% across 46,000+ shipments.

Jeep Engine Buying Guide
The Pentastar/eTorque split and the AMC 4.0L variant maze are the two biggest traps for Jeep engine buyers. Five checks before you order:
-
Pentastar 3.6L has multiple revisions — they are not all interchangeable. Early Pentastar (2011–2013) had documented left-cylinder-head and VVT solenoid issues. The 2014+ revision addressed both. The eTorque 48-volt hybrid variant on Wrangler JL and Cherokee uses a different accessory drive and harness. Verify the engine code, not just "3.6L Pentastar."
-
HEMI 5.7L vs 6.4L vs 6.2L Hellcat — three completely different engines. The 5.7L is the standard Mopar V8. The 6.4L (392) is a separate SRT-tuned naturally-aspirated unit with forged internals. The 6.2L Hellcat (Trackhawk) is supercharged. They share the HEMI valve cover styling but bolt patterns, engine mounts, and ECU calibration differ. Confirm exact displacement and aspiration before ordering.
-
HEMI MDS (Multi-Displacement System) requires verification. The cylinder-deactivation solenoid pack on 5.7L HEMI engines is a known wear item. Used HEMI engines should ideally come with documented MDS solenoid replacement or a pre-install plan to swap them. We can confirm condition on request.
-
AMC 4.0L is bulletproof but versions matter. TJ Wrangler, ZJ/WJ Grand Cherokee, and XJ Cherokee all share the AMC inline-six but have different intake manifolds (long vs short runner), exhaust manifolds, accessory brackets, and engine mounts. Confirm the donor chassis matches your vehicle.
-
EcoDiesel 3.0L emissions: confirm DEF and EGR state. VM Motori-built EcoDiesel V6 was subject to recall and modification. Some donors have post-recall calibrations, some pre-recall. Ask for DEF tank state, EGR cooler condition, and the recall history before purchase.
Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any engine ships.
