4R100 Heavy-Duty Automatic
F-250/F-350/F-450 Super Duty, Excursion (1999–2004). Built behind the 7.3L Power Stroke — gas and diesel bellhousings are not the same.

5R110W TorqShift
F-250/F-350/F-450 Super Duty (2003–2010). Five-speed diesel automatic behind the 6.0L and 6.4L — check torque converter and solenoid condition.
Used Ford 4R70W 4-Speed Automatic transmission

Used Ford AOD / AODE 4-Speed Automatic transmission
AOD / AODE 4-Speed Automatic
Mustang, F-150, Crown Victoria (1980–1995). The original Ford overdrive automatic — AOD is cable-shifted, AODE is electronic; not interchangeable.

5R55E / 5R55N / 5R55S

Why Buy a Used Ford Transmission from Auto Power Source

Ford transmissions are engineered for the brutal duty cycles American drivers put their trucks and performance cars through — towing 30,000-lb fifth-wheels, dragging boats up boat ramps, and turning the rear tires off a Mustang at the strip. Our 6,291 verified Ford transmissions span every major Ford gearbox family — from the modern 10R80 ten-speed powering current F-150s and Mustangs, through the workhorse 6R80 in 2009-2017 F-150s and Explorers, to the heavy-duty TorqShift and 4R100 units backing Power Stroke diesels in Super Duty, all the way down to the AOD and AODE classics from 1980s and 1990s Mustangs and Crown Vics.

Every Ford transmission we sell has been pulled from a low-mileage donor vehicle, cataloged by VIN, and held in our climate-controlled warehouse pending sale. Each unit went through our six-step inspection — VIN-matching, ASE testing, Shift-Tested through every gear under load, full visual inspection, multi-angle photography, and palletized shipping. Our ASE-certified technicians do the testing; rejected units never reach the buyer. Ford pairs specific transmissions with specific engines and 2WD vs 4WD configurations across years, so VIN-matching is critical — a 6R80 from a 2011 F-150 4WD is not the same as a 6R80 from a 2014 Explorer FWD, even though the model name is identical.

You pay a fraction of dealer-new pricing for identical Ford engineering, ship free on a heavy-duty pallet anywhere in the continental U.S., and get 30 days from delivery to return for any reason — no restocking fees. The warranty printed on the listing — with extended coverage up to 3 years available — covers you if anything goes wrong after install. Across 100K+ engines and transmissions shipped, we hold a 0% fitment-related return rate.

Your Ford Transmission Options: Compared

Most Ford owners face four real choices when the transmission fails:

← Swipe sideways to see all columns →
Option Cost Reliability Warranty Fitment Match
Used OEM (this collection) $$$ Best Value High — tested Included VIN-matched
New OEM (dealer) $$$$$ 2-4× more High Manufacturer Exact
Aftermarket / Reman $$$$ Varies 6-12 mo May adapt
Junkyard $ Cheapest Unknown None DIY

Tested used OEM hits the sweet spot — same engineering as new, fraction of the cost.

Ford Transmission Buying Guide

5 things to verify before buying a used Ford transmission:

  1. Confirm the exact transmission tag, not just the model name. Ford uses VIN digit 7 plus a transmission tag to identify the exact unit. The same model year F-150 can have multiple transmission options — always read the tag.
  2. 2WD and 4WD versions are not interchangeable. F-150, Super Duty, and Bronco transmissions come in 2WD and 4WD variants with different output shafts and tail housings. Always specify your drivetrain when ordering.
  3. For diesel applications, ask about torque converter condition. Heavy-duty diesel transmissions like the TorqShift and 4R100 experience higher torque loads. We test these units specifically for torque converter shudder and solenoid condition.
  4. For 10R80 units, confirm software calibration compatibility. Some 10R80 variants require a PCM reflash at installation. We flag this on applicable units — text us your VIN and we will confirm before you order.
  5. Confirm the match with your own VIN before you order. Your VIN settles the transmission code, drivetrain and build split in one step. Text it to +1-307-441-5554 and we will confirm in writing exactly which unit fits your vehicle before you pay.

Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any unit ships.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the warranty on a used Ford transmission?
Every Ford transmission ships with a warranty included — the standard term follows the model year (1 month for 1990, 3 months for 1991–2000, 6 months for 2001 and newer) and is printed on each product page. Extended coverage of up to 3 years is available at checkout.
What does ASE-tested mean?
ASE-certified technicians compression-test every cylinder and run leak-down evaluation on engines; transmissions are Shift-Tested through all gears under load. Plus noise & smoke verification, visual inspection, and multi-angle photography before shipment.
How long until delivery?
Prep and ship time is 3-5 business days. Transit time is 2-3 business days after dispatch via freight carrier — typically 5-8 business days from order to delivery.
Can I see photos before I buy?
Yes. Multi-angle photos of the actual unit are sent before payment. If you do not approve the photos, you get every dollar back — no restocking fees, no return freight charges.
Do I need my VIN?
Strongly recommended for exact-fit matching. Ford transmissions vary by trim, body style, drivetrain and build date. Text your VIN to +1-307-441-5554 and we will match options in minutes.
How do I find my exact Ford transmission?
Pick your model year below. Every year page lists the Ford models and transmission families we stock for that year, with the live count for each, and every product is titled by its transmission family and case ID.
Why cheaper than dealer new?
Used OEM from low-mileage donor vehicles. Same Ford engineering as factory new at a fraction of the cost — dealers are typically 2-4x our pricing, and many older units are no longer available new at all.
When can I reach customer service?
Call 1-877-313-8995 or text +1-307-441-5554 during the business hours shown in the site footer, or email info@autopowersource.com any time.
