Why Buy a 1999 Ford Transmission from Auto Power Source
1999 was the year Ford split its pickups in two. The new F-250 to F-550 Super Duty launched on its own heavy-duty frame with the 5.4L, the 6.8L V10 and the 7.3L Power Stroke, all backed by the 4R100 automatic, while the light-duty F-250 carried on alongside the F-150. The SVT F-150 Lightning returned with a supercharged 5.4L and its own 4R100. The Mustang got its New Edge restyle with more power from both the 3.8L and the 4.6L, and it was the last year of the Taurus SHO with its 3.4L V8 and AX4N. Our 161 verified 1999 Ford transmissions cover every one of those units: the 4R100, the 4R70W, the AX4S and AX4N, the Ranger and Explorer 4R44E, 4R55E and 5R55E, the Contour and Escort automatics and the manuals.
Every 1999 Ford transmission we sell has been pulled from a low-mileage donor vehicle, cataloged by VIN, and held in our climate-controlled warehouse pending sale. Each unit goes through our six-step inspection — VIN-matching against your vehicle, Shift-Testing through every gear under load, noise verification, full visual inspection of case, pan and bellhousing, multi-angle photography for your approval, and palletized freight. Rejected units never reach the buyer.
You pay a fraction of dealer-new pricing for the same Ford engineering, ship free on a heavy-duty pallet anywhere in the continental U.S., and have 30 days from delivery to return for any reason — no restocking fees. The warranty printed on the listing — with extended coverage up to 3 years available — covers you if anything goes wrong after install. Across 100K+ engines and transmissions in stock, we hold a 0% fitment-related return rate.

1999 Ford Transmission Buying Guide
5 things to verify before buying a used 1999 Ford transmission:
-
Match the Taurus unit by engine VIN code, ID letter and shifter. The 1999 Taurus is listed by the 8th VIN digit (1, 2, U or S), by AX4S with ID L or T versus AX4N with ID X, and by column or floor shift; the DOHC and SHO units also split by overdrive button. All of these change the unit.
-
Check 4R70W versus 4R100 behind the 5.4L. The 1999 F-150, F-250, Expedition and E-150 / E-250 carried either a 4R70W or a 4R100 behind the 5.4L, and the F-150 Lightning has its own 4R100. Every listing names the unit, and the Expedition 5.4L is listed by ID tag (XL1P, XL3P, XL7P).
-
Super Duty and Econoline units are listed by build. The F-250 to F-550 4R100 is listed by engine (5.4L, 6.8L V10, 7.3L diesel), 4x2 or 4x4, and PTO or w/o PTO; the E-350 and E-450 diesel vans by ID tag (XC2P-JB or XC2P-LB). Each changes the case, output or controller.
-
Contour, Windstar and Escort units go by ID tag and engine. The 1999 Contour is split 2.0L or 2.5L and by ID tag (F83P or XS7P), the Windstar by 3.0L or 3.8L and F88P or XF2P, and the Escort by SOHC sedan or wagon versus the ZX2 DOHC. Match the tag on your case.
-
Confirm the match with your own VIN before you order. Your VIN settles the transmission code, drivetrain and build split in one step. Text it to +1-307-441-5554 and we will confirm in writing exactly which unit fits your vehicle before you pay.
Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any unit ships.
