Why Buy a 1999 Chevy Engine from Auto Power Source
Every 1999 Chevy engine listed here is a real unit on our floor, not a catalogue entry. Each is ASE-certified-technician tested, compression-tested and leak-down checked, photographed from multiple angles, and matched to your vehicle before we take payment. The count on this page is the live active count, so what you see is what we can ship.
1999 is the hardest Chevy year to order blind. GM sold the new-style GMT800 Silverado 1500 and 2500 alongside the carried-over GMT400 C/K trucks, and the two use different engine families: Gen III 4.8L LR4, 5.3L LM7 and 6.0L LQ4 in the new truck, iron Vortec 5700 L31 and 7.4L L29 in the old one. They are not interchangeable, and the badge does not tell you which you have. The 8th VIN digit does.
The 4.3L Vortec 4300 V6 is the volume engine of the year and it splits two ways: VIN W is the standard LU3, VIN X the high-output version fitted to some S10 and Sonoma trucks. The Express van adds a second trap: the 4.3L came with two bell-housing bolt patterns, ID ABA/ABC standard and ID UBA/UBC metric, and the wrong one will not bolt to your transmission. We carry both and check the ID code against your VIN.
On the diesel side, the 6.5L turbo diesel V8 comes as the L65 (VIN F) in the C/K trucks, Suburbans and Express vans, and as the L56 (VIN S) in the Tahoe. We also stock bi-fuel CNG versions of the 5.7L L31 and the 2.2L four (option KL6), rare units most sellers cannot source at all.
Every engine ships with free freight to the lower 48, a warranty of up to three years, and a money-back guarantee. If the unit does not match what we promised, it comes back at our cost. Call 1-877-313-8995, text +1-307-441-5554, or email info@autopowersource.com and a real person will work the match with you.

1999 Chevy Engine Buying Guide
5 things to verify before buying a used 1999 Chevy engine:
-
New style or classic? In 1999 the GMT800 Silverado 1500/2500 and the GMT400 C1500-C3500 were sold side by side. The new truck runs Gen III 4.8L LR4, 5.3L LM7 or 6.0L LQ4; the classic truck runs 5.0L L30, 5.7L L31 or 7.4L L29. Settle this first; nothing else in the match works until you have.
-
Read the 8th VIN digit, not the badge. GM reused displacements across families this year. VIN M is a 5.0L L30 V8 on a C1500 but a 3.1L LG8 V6 on a Malibu; VIN T is a 5.3L LM7 on a Silverado but a 2.4L LD9 four on a Cavalier; VIN J is a 7.4L L29 on a K3500 but a California-emissions 3.1L on a Lumina. Displacement plus VIN digit together identify the engine; neither alone does.
-
Express vans: check the bell-housing ID code. The 1999 4.3L in the Express 1500-3500 shipped with two bolt patterns. ID ABA and ABC are the standard pattern; ID UBA and UBC are metric. They do not interchange. The code is cast on the block and we verify it before shipping.
-
Fuel system: gasoline, CNG or diesel. The 5.7L L31 and the 2.2L four were both offered as factory bi-fuel CNG units (option KL6 on the four), and the 6.5L turbo diesel came as the L65 VIN F or the Tahoe-specific L56 VIN S. A CNG block carries different heads, injectors and valve seats to its gasoline twin, so the fuel type is part of the part number, not an option.

Confirm the match with your own VIN before you order. Send us the 17-character VIN off your own vehicle and our technicians will confirm the engine family, displacement, emissions calibration and accessory fitment against it before any unit ships. It takes a few minutes and it is the only way to be certain.
Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any unit ships.
