2002 Used Chevy Engines For Sale

Every 2002 Chevy engine listed below is a real unit on our floor, photographed and compression-tested before it is listed. 2002 is the year the GMT800 range reached its widest: the 5.3L comes as iron-block LM7 and flex-fuel L59, the 4.3L Vortec splits VIN W and VIN X, and the Cavalier carries the new Ecotec alongside the old 2200 pushrod. Text us your VIN and we match the RPO code for you.

Why Buy a 2002 Chevy Engine from Auto Power Source

2002 is a year where buying a Chevy engine by displacement alone goes wrong, because GM was running old and new hardware side by side. A 5.3L is not one engine: VIN T is the iron-block LM7 and VIN Z the flex-fuel L59 with its own fuel-system calibration. The 4.3L Vortec 4300 splits the same way across VIN W and VIN X, which differ in fuel system and calibration rather than displacement. We list each of them separately and we read your eighth VIN digit before we quote.

The heavy end of the 2002 range is just as split. Our 6.0L stock is the LQ4 Vortec 6000 in both gasoline and CNG trim, and our 6.6L Duramax LB7 diesels are listed Federal opt NF2, Federal opt NF4 and California, because those three are not interchangeable where a state emissions test applies. Beside them sit two completely different diesels and two completely different big gas V8s: the older 6.5L turbo diesel still fitted to Express vans and I-beam C3500 chassis cabs, and the 8.1L Vortec 8100 that replaced the 7.4L.

Every unit on this page has been drained, inspected, compression-tested and photographed by our own technicians before it reached the listing. You see the real unit, not a stock image. It ships on a pallet with a warranty included, free freight to the lower 48, and an ASE-certified technician on the phone if your installer has a question mid-job.

2002 is also a year of arrivals and departures, and the model names in our listings show it. The Avalanche and the TrailBlazer were both new, the TrailBlazer bringing GM's 4.2L Atlas inline six with it, while the Camaro and the Corvette shared the 5.7L LS1 in the Camaro's final model year. At the small end the Cavalier is split here into the new 2.2L Ecotec L61, listed in both its EGR-port and no-EGR-port head versions, the 2.2L 2200 pushrod including the CNG opt KL6 car, and the 2.4L Twin Cam LD9. The Prizm's Toyota 1.8L and the Tracker's Suzuki 2.0L and 2.5L are on their own lines for the same reason.

Your 2002 Chevy Engine Options: Compared

Most 2002 Chevy owners face four real choices when the engine fails:

← Swipe sideways to see all columns →
Option Cost Reliability Warranty Fitment Match
Used OEM (this collection) $$$ Best Value High — tested Included VIN-matched
New OEM (dealer) $$$$$ 2-4× more High Manufacturer Exact
Aftermarket / Reman $$$$ Varies 6-12 mo May adapt
Junkyard $ Cheapest Unknown None DIY

Tested used OEM hits the sweet spot — same engineering as new, fraction of the cost.

2002 Chevy Engine Buying Guide

5 things to verify before buying a used 2002 Chevy engine:

  1. Read the eighth VIN digit, not the badge. On a 2002 Chevy the eighth character of the VIN is what names the engine. 5.3L VIN T and VIN Z are two different engines, and so are 4.3L VIN W and VIN X. The decal on the rocker cover is not a reliable guide after twenty years of service.
  2. Match the RPO option code where the title gives one. Where GM's option code appears in a listing, treat it as the deciding detail. The Cavalier's CNG opt KL6 and the Corvette's opt LS1 are option codes, not trim descriptions, and they change which long block fits.
  3. On a 6.6L Duramax, check the emissions split. 2002 LB7 diesels came as Federal opt NF2, Federal opt NF4 and California. These are not interchangeable if your vehicle has to pass a state emissions test, so the one you order has to match the one that left the factory.
  4. Know which diesel and which big V8 you are buying. 2002 runs two unrelated diesels, the 6.6L Duramax LB7 and the older 6.5L VIN F, and the 8.1L Vortec 8100 alongside them. Displacement is the only thing they share, so check the VIN digit rather than the fuel type.
  5. Confirm the match with your own VIN before you order. Send us the VIN off the vehicle you are repairing and we check it against the unit before anything is picked, packed or shipped. It takes a minute and it is the single cheapest way to avoid a return.

Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any unit ships.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many 2002 Chevy engines do you have in stock?
89 today, across 16 model lines and 16 engine families. The number on this page is read from live inventory, so it moves as units sell.
What is the difference between the 5.3L VIN T and VIN Z?
VIN T is the iron-block LM7, the most common 5.3L in 2002 trucks and SUVs. VIN Z is the L59, the flex-fuel version with its own fuel-system calibration. They are not interchangeable without checking fuel and engine management.
Why are the 4.3L engines listed as VIN W and VIN X?
Both are Vortec 4300 V6s, but they differ in fuel system and calibration, so GM gave them separate VIN codes. We stock and list both; your eighth VIN digit says which one your vehicle left the factory with.
Which 2002 Chevys used the 6.0L LQ4?
The LQ4, VIN U, is the 6.0L Vortec 6000 and in our 2002 stock it covers Silverado 1500, 1500 HD, 2500 HD and 3500, Suburban 2500 and Express vans, in gasoline and CNG trim.
Do your 2002 Chevy engines come with a warranty?
Yes. Every unit ships with a warranty included at no extra cost, and freight to the lower 48 is free. Our team confirms the exact term for your unit before you pay.
Can you tell which engine my 2002 Chevy has?
Yes, and it is the fastest route. Text your VIN to +1-307-441-5554 or call 1-877-313-8995 and we read the eighth digit and the option codes, then quote only matching units.
Why are the 2.2L Cavalier engines listed differently?
Because they are different engines. The VIN F unit is the new 2.2L Ecotec L61, listed here in both the EGR-port and no-EGR-port head versions, and the VIN 4 unit is the 2200 pushrod, including the CNG opt KL6 car. Same displacement badge, different long block.
How fast do you ship a 2002 Chevy engine?
Units in stock are picked and palletised the same or next business day, and freight to the lower 48 is free. Call 1-877-313-8995 for a delivery estimate.
