Why Buy a 2018 Chevy Engine from Auto Power Source
2018 is the last model year before Chevrolet redesigned the Silverado 1500, so the K2XX truck runs its final season with four distinct engines — the 4.3L LV3 V6, the 5.3L L83, the fleet-only 5.3L L8B and the 6.2L L86. The 2500 HD and 3500 HD carry the 6.0L L96 gasoline V8 or the 6.6L L5P Duramax, and our listings spell the HD trucks three different ways (Truck-Silverado 2500, Silverado 2500 HD and the range-token form) for the same hardware. Displacement alone will not identify a 2018 Chevy engine: Chevrolet names it with a GM RPO option code, and the 8th VIN digit confirms it.
2018 is also the widest diesel year in the Chevy car line. The 1.6L LH7 turbo-diesel appears in the Cruze as a manual or an automatic and in the Equinox as FWD or AWD, while the 2.8L LWN Duramax four runs in both the Colorado and the Express vans and the 6.6L L5P stays truck-only. On the gasoline side the 2.0L LTG turbo spans Camaro, Malibu, Traverse and Equinox, the Equinox alone offers 1.5L LYX, 1.6L LH7 and 2.0L LTG each in FWD and AWD, and the Express 2500 and 3500 add 6.0L LC8 engines prepared for CNG and LPG. The Camaro 3.6L LGX is listed with and without the KC4 cooling package, the Camaro 6.2L as LT1 or supercharged LT4, and the Corvette as Base, Z51 or Grand Sport with the Z52 dry-sump system.
Every 2018 Chevy engine we sell has been pulled from a low-mileage donor vehicle, cataloged by VIN and held in our climate-controlled warehouse. Each unit goes through our six-step inspection — VIN-matching against your vehicle, compression testing on every cylinder with a leak-down evaluation, noise and smoke verification, visual inspection, multi-angle photography for your approval, and palletized freight. You pay a fraction of dealer-new pricing for the same GM engineering, ship free anywhere in the continental U.S., and have 30 days to return for any reason.

2018 Chevy Engine Buying Guide
5 things to verify before buying a used 2018 Chevy engine:
-
Read the RPO code, not just the displacement. A 2018 Chevy engine is identified by displacement, the 8th VIN digit and a GM RPO code together. The 5.3L is opt L83 (VIN C) or the fleet L8B (VIN R); the 6.2L is L86 in the truck and SUV but LT1 or supercharged LT4 in the Camaro and Corvette; the 1.4L is LUV in the Trax and Sonic but LE2 in the Cruze and LV7 in the Spark. Two listings of the same size are routinely different engines.
-
On the HD trucks, read past the naming. Our 2018 2500 HD and 3500 HD listings appear as Truck-Silverado 2500/3500, as Silverado 2500 HD/3500 HD and with a range token such as (1999 Up) or (2001 Up). They are the same hardware — the 6.0L L96 gasoline V8 (VIN G) or the 6.6L L5P Duramax (VIN Y). Pick by RPO code, not by how the title is worded.
-
Separate the two Duramax diesels and the car diesel. 2018 holds three unrelated diesels: the 6.6L L5P V8 (VIN Y) in the 2500/3500, the 2.8L LWN four (VIN 1) in the Colorado and the Express vans, and the 1.6L LH7 four (VIN E) in the Cruze and Equinox. None of the three interchanges.
-
Check drivetrain, cooling and fuel options. The Equinox is listed as FWD or AWD at 1.5L, 1.6L and 2.0L; the Colorado 2.5L LCV as 4x2 or 4x4; the Camaro 3.6L LGX with and without opt KC4 cooling; the Corvette with the opt Z52 dry-sump system on Z51 and Grand Sport; and the Express 6.0L as L96 gasoline or LC8 prepared for CNG or LPG. These change the mounts, oil pan and accessories supplied.
-
Confirm the match with your own VIN before you order. Your VIN settles the RPO code, body style and drivetrain in one step. Text it to +1-307-441-5554 and we will confirm in writing which unit fits your vehicle before you pay.
Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any unit ships.
