Real transmissions from our warehouse, VIN-matched and ready to ship. Every modern Subaru is AWD except the BRZ — and the Boxer engine + symmetrical AWD platform means Subaru transmissions have a distinctive longitudinal transaxle layout not shared with any other Japanese brand.
Why Buy a Used Subaru Transmission from Auto Power Source
Subaru transmissions are unlike any other Japanese OEM's. The symmetrical AWD platform and longitudinally-mounted Boxer engine mean Subaru transaxles are their own family — the TR690 and TR580 Lineartronic CVTs, the TY75 5-speed, the TY856 and TY750 STI 6-speeds, the 4EAT and 5EAT automatics all share a distinct architectural DNA with a front differential integrated into the transmission case. That does two things for sourcing: it makes Subaru transmissions non-cross-fittable with any other brand (a Nissan CVT will not fit a Forester), and it means the STI 6-speeds (both TY750 pre-2008 and TY856 2008+) are specifically calibrated to the DCCD center differential and not interchangeable with each other or with any non-STI Subaru manual.
Every Subaru transmission we sell has been pulled from a low-mileage donor vehicle, cataloged by VIN, and held in our climate-controlled warehouse. Each unit went through our six-step inspection — VIN-matching, ASE Shift-Testing through every gear under load, noise & smoke verification, full visual inspection of the case and front differential, multi-angle photography, and palletized shipping. Our ASE-certified technicians pay specific attention to CVT valve-body condition on TR580/TR690, DCCD center-diff function on STI 6-speeds, and torque converter condition on 5EAT turbo applications. Rejected units never reach the buyer.
You pay a fraction of dealer-new pricing for identical Subaru engineering, ship free on a heavy-duty pallet anywhere in the continental U.S., and get 30 days from delivery to return for any reason — no restocking fees. Up to a 3-year warranty covers you if anything goes wrong after install. Across 100,000+ engines and transmissions shipped, we hold a 0% fitment-related return rate.

Subaru Transmission Buying Guide
Subaru's Boxer + symmetrical AWD layout means transmission fitment is stricter than most brands. Five things to verify before buying a used Subaru transmission:
Every modern Subaru is AWD except the BRZ. The BRZ uses the Aisin TR-6060 6-speed manual (shared with Scion FR-S and Toyota 86) — RWD-only, longitudinal, will NOT drop into any WRX, STI, Impreza, Forester, or Outback. Confirm your vehicle is the BRZ before ordering an Aisin TR-6060, and confirm it is NOT the BRZ before ordering any other Subaru unit.
CVT variants are engine-displacement-locked. The TR690 Lineartronic CVT pairs with FB25 and EZ36 (larger applications: Outback, Legacy, Ascent, Tribeca). The TR580 pairs with FB20 exclusively (compact applications: Impreza, Forester, Crosstrek). These are NOT interchangeable — the case and torque converter are sized to the engine. The TR580H Hybrid unit is additionally locked to the Crosstrek Hybrid platform 2014–2018.
STI 6-speed TY750 and TY856 are NOT interchangeable. The 2004–2007 WRX STI shipped with the TY750; the 2008–2021 STI shipped with the TY856. Both are AWD with DCCD center differentials, but gear ratios, center-diff calibration, and mounting differ. Sourcing the wrong generation results in incorrect ratios, DCCD control faults, and mounting incompatibilities.
Turbo vs NA calibration matters for automatics. The 5EAT 5-speed automatic is the turbo/high-torque unit (Outback XT, Legacy GT, WRX auto, EZ30 Tribeca) — different torque converter, different valve body, different gearsets than the 4EAT. Sourcing a 4EAT for a turbo application will result in slippage and premature failure.
Phase 1 (early 1990s) is a different architecture. Original Phase 1 Legacy, Impreza, and Forester (early 1990s) used a different transmission mounting and case design. Post-2000 Phase 2 units will NOT bolt to a Phase 1 chassis. Restoration builds should verify Phase 1 vs Phase 2 before ordering.
Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any transmission ships.

Learn More: Subaru Transmission Guides
Practical guides from our team — how to install a used Subaru transmission, what to check on delivery, and what really matters when buying online.
What is the warranty on a used Subaru transmission?
Up to 3 years, depending on the specific unit. The exact warranty term is listed on each product page.
What does ASE-tested mean?
ASE-certified technicians Shift-Test transmissions through all gears under load, plus noise & smoke verification, visual inspection, and multi-angle photography before shipment.
How long until delivery?
Prep and ship time is 3-5 business days. Transit time is 2-3 business days after dispatch via freight carrier.
Can I see photos before I buy?
Yes. Multi-angle photos of the actual unit sent before payment.
Do I need my VIN?
Yes — essential. Subaru transmissions vary by drivetrain (AWD vs BRZ RWD), engine displacement (CVT pairing), and STI generation. Your VIN is how we pick the right unit.
What if I do not approve the photos?
Every dollar back. No restocking fees, no return freight charges.
Why cheaper than dealer new?
Used OEM from low-mileage donors. Same Subaru engineering, fraction of the cost.
Every Subaru transmission you buy earns rewards. 10 orders (yours or referred) = $500 cash credit. Silver, Gold, and Platinum tiers with discounts, priority support, and private inventory access.
Every Subaru transmission we ship has been through these six steps:
1. VIN-Matching
We match the donor VIN to your VIN to confirm transmission code, drivetrain, and 2WD/4WD configuration.
2. Tested & Verified
ASE-certified technicians Shift-Test every gear under load. Transmissions are checked for clean engagement, no slipping, no abnormal noises.
3. Noise & Smoke Verification
Units are run to verify normal mechanical sound and clean operation — catches internal wear static tests miss.
4. Visual Inspection
Every accessible component is inspected: bell housing, output shaft, solenoid pack, cooler lines, sensor harnesses.
5. Photograph & Catalog
Multi-angle photos sent to you BEFORE we ship for your approval.
6. Palletize & Ship
Strapped on a heavy-duty wooden pallet, shipped via freight at no charge.
Our Photos-Before-Shipment Guarantee
Before any transmission leaves our warehouse, we send you multi-angle photographs. You approve. If you do not approve, you get every dollar back — no questions, no restocking fees, no return freight charges. On top of 30-day money-back and up to 3-year warranty.
