Ram Transmissions We Cover

Ten Ram, Mopar and ZF transmission families, all in stock and Shift-Tested — from the light-duty RFE automatics to the cast-iron Cummins manuals.

Used Ram 545RFE 5-Speed Automatic transmission
545RFE 5-Speed Automatic
Ram 1500, Dakota (2001–2013). The light-duty RWD/4WD workhorse behind the 4.7L Magnum and 5.7L HEMI — MDS and non-MDS generations differ.
Used Ram 65RFE 6-Speed Automatic transmission
65RFE 6-Speed Automatic
Ram 1500 (2012–present). The six-speed evolution of the 545RFE — added gear, tighter ratios, calibrated for the modern HEMI.
Used Ram 68RFE 6-Speed Automatic Diesel transmission
68RFE 6-Speed Automatic (Diesel)
Ram 2500/3500 Cummins (2007.5–present). Built for 6.7L Cummins torque — emissions-year matching is critical at the 2013 strategy break.
Used Ram ZF 8HP70 8-Speed Automatic transmission
ZF 8HP70 8-Speed Automatic
Ram 1500 (2013–present). The ZF eight-speed behind the 5.7L HEMI and 3.6L Pentastar — requires ZF Lifeguard 8 fluid, not ATF+4.
Used Ram 46RH / 47RH 4-Speed Automatic transmission
46RH / 47RH 4-Speed Automatic
Ram 1500/2500/3500 (1994–2002). The original heavy-duty four-speeds — 46RH light-duty, 47RH diesel duty, both predecessors of the 48RE.
Used Ram 48RE 4-Speed Automatic Diesel transmission
48RE 4-Speed Automatic (Diesel)
Ram 2500/3500 Cummins (2003–2007). The pre-68RFE Cummins automatic — heavy-duty four-speed with lockup torque converter.
Used Ram NV5600 6-Speed Manual Diesel transmission
NV5600 6-Speed Manual (Diesel)
Ram 2500/3500 Cummins (1999–2005). The 600 lb-ft cast-iron six-speed — sixth-gear nut and input bearing wear are the checks that matter.
Used Ram G56 6-Speed Manual Diesel transmission
G56 6-Speed Manual (Diesel)
Ram 2500/3500 Cummins (2005–2018). Mercedes-built heavy-duty six-speed — takes Mopar synthetic manual lubricant, not gear oil.
Used Ram NV4500 5-Speed Manual transmission
NV4500 5-Speed Manual (Heavy-Duty)
Ram 2500/3500 (1994–2000). The cast-iron heavy-duty five-speed — diesel and big-block gas applications, predecessor to the NV5600.
Used Ram NV3500 5-Speed Manual transmission
NV3500 5-Speed Manual
Ram 1500, Dakota (1994–2004). Aluminum-case five-speed manual — the gas-truck workhorse, lighter than the NV4500.

Why Buy a Used Ram Transmission from Auto Power Source

Ram runs one of the most varied transmission lineups in North America for a single truck line. Heavy-duty automatics like the 545RFE, 65RFE and 68RFE carry Ram 1500 and Cummins duty; the ZF-built 8HP70 sits behind the 5.7L HEMI in the modern Ram 1500; and the NV4500, NV5600 and G56 manuals remain the favourite swap for Cummins-powered HD trucks. Matching the exact transmission code and emissions year is critical — a 68RFE from a 2010 6.7L Cummins is calibrated very differently from a 2013+ unit, and 545RFE generations differ between MDS and non-MDS HEMI applications. Get it wrong and you are looking at a tune at minimum, or a no-start at worst.

Every one of our 1,090 verified Ram transmissions has been pulled from a low-mileage donor, cataloged by VIN, and held in our climate-controlled warehouse pending sale. Each unit goes through our six-step inspection: VIN-matching, Shift-Testing through every forward and reverse gear under load by ASE-certified technicians, noise verification on the test stand, full visual inspection including pan and case, multi-angle photography for your approval, and palletized freight shipping. Rejected units never reach the buyer.

You pay a fraction of dealer-new pricing for identical Mopar engineering, ship free on a heavy-duty wooden pallet anywhere in the continental U.S., and you have 30 days from delivery to return for any reason — no restocking fees, no return freight charges. The warranty printed on the listing — with extended coverage up to 3 years available — covers you after install. Across 100K+ engines and transmissions in stock, we hold a 0% fitment-related return rate.

Your Ram Transmission Options: Compared

Most Ram owners face four real choices when a transmission fails:

← Swipe sideways to see all columns →
Option Cost Reliability Warranty Fitment Match
Used OEM (this collection) $$$ Best Value High — tested Included VIN-matched
New OEM (dealer) $$$$$ 2-4× more High Manufacturer Exact
Reman / Rebuilt $$$$ Varies 6-12 mo May adapt
Junkyard pull $ Cheapest Unknown None DIY

Tested used OEM hits the sweet spot — same Mopar and ZF engineering as new, a fraction of dealer cost.

Ram Transmission Buying Guide

Ram transmissions are unforgiving when mismatched — the wrong year code can mean a truck stuck in limp mode the day you install it. 5 things to verify before you buy:

  1. Match the donor's emissions year exactly on 68RFE Cummins units. A 68RFE pulled from a 2010 6.7L Cummins has different valve-body programming than a 2013+ unit. Mixing them across the 2013 emissions-strategy break throws codes and requires a tune. We document donor year on every 68RFE we list.
  2. 2WD and 4WD are not interchangeable. The 4WD 545RFE, 65RFE, 68RFE, 48RE and ZF 8HP70 carry a different rear extension housing and output shaft for the transfer case. Confirm drivetrain before ordering, and on the 8HP70 confirm whether the truck originally came with a transfer-case adapter.
  3. NV5600 sixth-gear nut and input-shaft bearing wear is a known issue. Every NV5600 we sell is stand-tested with audible inspection in all six gears under load. Any unit showing whine, bearing roughness or a loose sixth-gear retaining nut is rejected. Ask us for the test log.
  4. Fluid specs are not interchangeable. Mopar ATF+4 fills the 545RFE, 68RFE, 42RLE and 48RE; ZF Lifeguard 8 is the only fluid for the 8HP70; the G56 takes Mopar synthetic manual transmission lubricant. The wrong fluid voids your warranty and damages clutch packs within hundreds of miles.
  5. Confirm the match with your own VIN before you order. Your VIN settles the transmission code, drivetrain and build split in one step. Text it to +1-307-441-5554 and we will confirm in writing exactly which unit fits your vehicle before you pay.

Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any unit ships.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the warranty on a used Ram transmission?
Every Ram transmission ships with a warranty included — the standard term follows the model year (1 month for 1990, 3 months for 1991–2000, 6 months for 2001 and newer) and is printed on each product page. Extended coverage of up to 3 years is available at checkout.
What does ASE-tested mean?
ASE-certified technicians compression-test every cylinder and run leak-down evaluation on engines; transmissions are Shift-Tested through all gears under load. Plus noise & smoke verification, visual inspection, and multi-angle photography before shipment.
How long until delivery?
Prep and ship time is 3-5 business days. Transit time is 2-3 business days after dispatch via freight carrier — typically 5-8 business days from order to delivery.
Can I see photos before I buy?
Yes. Multi-angle photos of the actual unit are sent before payment. If you do not approve the photos, you get every dollar back — no restocking fees, no return freight charges.
Do I need my VIN?
Yes — essential on Ram. The 68RFE splits by emissions year at the 2013 strategy break, the 545RFE splits by MDS and non-MDS HEMI generation, and 2WD and 4WD units are different parts. Text your VIN to +1-307-441-5554 and we will confirm the exact unit.
How do I find my exact Ram transmission?
Every product is titled by its transmission family and case ID, and the listing states the donor year and drivetrain. Text us your VIN and we will match the exact transmission code for your truck within minutes.
Why cheaper than dealer new?
Used OEM from low-mileage donor vehicles. Same Mopar, Chrysler and ZF engineering as factory new at a fraction of the cost — dealers are typically 2-4x our pricing, and many older units are no longer available new at all.
When can I reach customer service?
Call 1-877-313-8995 or text +1-307-441-5554 during the business hours shown in the site footer, or email info@autopowersource.com any time.

Our 6-Step Inspection & Shipping Process

Every Ram transmission we ship has been through these six steps:

1. VIN-Matching
We match the donor VIN to your VIN to confirm transmission code, emissions calibration, drivetrain (2WD/4WD), and bell-housing fitment.
2. Tested & Verified
ASE-certified technicians Shift-Test every forward and reverse gear under load, verifying clutch engagement and lockup operation.
3. Noise & Smoke Verification
Test-stand evaluation listens for bearing whine, clutch slip and unusual mechanical sound. NV5600 and G56 units get extra audible inspection.
4. Visual Inspection
Every accessible component is inspected: pan, case, bellhousing, tailshaft, sensor harnesses, valve-body cover, vent.
5. Photograph & Catalog
Multi-angle photos sent to you BEFORE we ship for your approval.
6. Palletize & Ship
Strapped on a heavy-duty wooden pallet, shipped via freight at no charge anywhere in the continental U.S.
