Five things to verify before buying a used Chevy transmission:

1. Confirm the exact transmission tag, not just the model name. GM uses a tag (RPO code) plus VIN digit to identify the exact unit. The same model year Silverado can ship with multiple transmission options.
2. 2WD and 4WD versions are not interchangeable. Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, and Suburban transmissions come in 2WD and 4WD variants with different output shafts and tail housings. Always specify your drivetrain.
3. For Allison 1000 units, confirm Duramax generation pairing. The Allison 1000 has multiple variants matched to LB7, LLY, LBZ, LMM, and LML Duramax generations. Text us your VIN for the exact pairing.
4. For 6L80E/6L90E units, verify torque converter and solenoid condition. These units commonly have torque converter shudder issues by the 100k-mile mark. We test specifically for this.
5. Always replace transmission fluid at installation. GM specifies Dexron VI for most modern automatics — using the wrong fluid type will cause shift quality issues and void your warranty from day one.
