2009 Used Chevy Transmissions For Sale

Every 2009 Chevy transmission below is a real unit on our floor, matched by GM RPO option code rather than guesswork. 2009 is the year the six-speeds took over the full-size line — the 5.3L Silverado 1500 and Tahoe ship with either the 4L60E opt M30 or the 6L80 opt MYC, and the Hybrid trucks carry the 2ML70 two-mode. Send us your VIN and we will tell you in writing which unit fits.

Why Buy a 2009 Chevy Transmission from Auto Power Source

2009 is the hardest Chevy year to order a gearbox for by eye. The GMT900 trucks were mid-changeover: the same 5.3L Silverado 1500 cab could leave the plant with a four-speed 4L60E (opt M30) or a six-speed 6L80 (opt MYC), and nothing on the outside of the truck tells you which. The option code on the glovebox label does, and so does your VIN. We match on that code before anything is picked, packed or shipped.

The heavy-duty split is just as sharp. A 6.0L gasoline Silverado 2500 HD or 3500 HD runs the 6L90; the 6.6L Duramax runs the Allison 1000, and PTO-prep builds are a separate part again. We hold both sides of that split in stock, with the PTO and non-PTO variants listed separately so you are not sent a case that will not take your pump.

Every unit is Shift-Tested through all gears under load before it is listed, then photographed from multiple angles. You see your actual unit and approve it before it leaves the warehouse. If the photos are not what you expected, you have not paid for freight and you owe nothing.

Freight is free to the lower 48 and every 2009 Chevy transmission ships with warranty coverage included — up to three years, with no fine print about a core charge you were not told about. Our ASE-certified technicians are on the phone, not behind a ticket form.

Your 2009 Chevy Transmission Options: Compared

Most 2009 Chevy owners face four real choices when the transmission fails:

← Swipe sideways to see all columns →
Option Cost Reliability Warranty Fitment Match
Used OEM (this collection) $$$ Best Value High — tested Included VIN-matched
New OEM (dealer) $$$$$ 2-4× more High Manufacturer Exact
Aftermarket / Reman $$$$ Varies 6-12 mo May adapt
Junkyard $ Cheapest Unknown None DIY

Tested used OEM hits the sweet spot — same engineering as new, fraction of the cost.

2009 Chevy Transmission Buying Guide

5 things to verify before buying a used 2009 Chevy transmission:

  1. Read the option code, not the badge. 2009 Chevy transmissions are identified by GM RPO code — M30, MYC, MT1, MN8, HP2, M99, MH8, MN5, MH4, M09, M45, FY1, FR6. The code is on the service parts label in the glovebox or door jamb, and it is the only reliable way to separate a four-speed from a six-speed in this model year.
  2. Separate the 4L60E from the 6L80 on the 5.3L. On a 2009 Silverado 1500 or Tahoe with the 5.3L V8, opt M30 is the four-speed 4L60E and opt MYC is the six-speed 6L80. The bellhousing pattern is shared, the case, valve body and controller are not. Fitting the wrong one will not work even though it bolts up.
  3. Check whether yours is a Hybrid. The 6.0L Silverado 1500 opt HP2 and the Tahoe opt M99 use the 2ML70 two-mode hybrid drive unit, which is a different unit entirely from the 6L80 in a non-hybrid 6.0L truck. If your truck carries hybrid badging or a 300-volt battery under the second row, you need the 2ML70.
  4. On a heavy duty, confirm gas versus diesel and PTO. A 6.0L gasoline 2500 HD or 3500 HD takes the 6L90; a 6.6L Duramax takes the Allison 1000. Within the Duramax units, PTO-prep and non-PTO cases differ at the rear, so tell us which you have before we pick.
  5. Confirm the match with your own VIN before you order. Your VIN settles the transmission code, drivetrain and build split in one step. Text it to +1-307-441-5554 and we will confirm in writing exactly which unit fits your vehicle before you pay.

Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any unit ships.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know whether my 2009 Silverado 1500 has a 4L60E or a 6L80?
Check the RPO list on the service parts label in the glovebox. Opt M30 is the four-speed 4L60E; opt MYC is the six-speed 6L80. Both were offered behind the 5.3L V8 in 2009, so the engine alone does not decide it. Text us the VIN and we will read the build for you.
What transmission is in a 2009 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD?
It depends on the engine. The 6.0L gasoline V8 uses the 6L90 six-speed. The 6.6L Duramax diesel uses the Allison 1000. We stock both, and we list the PTO-prep Duramax cases separately because the rear of the case differs.
Is the Tahoe Hybrid transmission the same as a regular Tahoe?
No. The 2009 Tahoe Hybrid (opt M99) uses the 2ML70 two-mode hybrid drive unit. A non-hybrid Tahoe uses either the 4L60E (opt M30) or the 6L80 (opt MYC). The two-mode unit is not interchangeable with either.
Which transmission does the 2009 Malibu use?
Three different ones. The 2.4L with opt MH8 uses the 6T40 six-speed; the 2.4L with opt MN5 and the 2.4L BAS hybrid use the 4T45E four-speed; the 3.6L V6 uses the 6T70. The 3.5L V6 uses the 4T45E. The option code settles it.
Do you have 2009 Express van transmissions?
Yes. The Express 1500 uses the 4L60E (opt M30). The Express 2500 and 3500 use the 4L80E, in opt MT1 gasoline and opt MN8 diesel builds, across the 135-inch and 155-inch wheelbases. Tell us the wheelbase and engine and we will match the ID code.
What warranty comes with a used 2009 Chevy transmission?
Every unit ships with warranty coverage included, up to three years depending on the unit and how it will be used. There is a 30-day money-back window on top of that. Freight to the lower 48 is free both ways inside the return window.
Will you send photographs before it ships?
Always. Every 2009 Chevy transmission is photographed from multiple angles after it is Shift-Tested, and nothing leaves the warehouse until you have seen the photos of your actual unit and approved them.
How fast can a 2009 Chevy transmission ship?
Most units in this list ship the same or next business day once you have approved the photos. Freight to the lower 48 is free. Call 1-877-313-8995 or text +1-307-441-5554 with your VIN and we will confirm the shipping window with the quote.
