Why Buy a 2010 Dodge Engine from Auto Power Source

Every 2010 Dodge engine here is used OEM, pulled from a low-mileage donor vehicle, catalogued by its 8th-digit engine code and held in our warehouse until it sells. Nothing is a rebuild, nothing is an aftermarket casting, and nothing ships before an ASE-certified technician has signed it off.

2010 is the end of several Dodge engine lines at once, which is why the VIN matters more than the badge here. The 6.1L SRT8 HEMI (VIN W) finishes this year and is replaced by the 6.4L 392 for 2011. The 8.4L Viper V10 (VIN Z) closes out Gen-4 production. The Grand Caravan is the only Dodge ever offered with three different V6s in one year — 3.3L (VIN E), 3.8L (VIN 1) and 4.0L (VIN X) — and the two pushrod engines end with 2010. On the trucks, every diesel in stock is the 6.7L Cummins (VIN L), and the Ram 1500 and Dakota still run the 3.7L and 4.7L PowerTech pair.

We match on the VIN, not the model name. Our technicians compression-test every cylinder, run a leak-down evaluation, verify noise and smoke on a test stand, then photograph the unit from every angle and send those photos to you before it moves. If the photos are not right, you get every dollar back — no restocking fee, no return freight.

Your 2010 Dodge Engine Options: Compared

Most 2010 Dodge owners face four real choices when the engine fails:

← Swipe sideways to see all columns →
Option Cost Reliability Warranty Fitment Match
Used OEM (this collection) $$$ Best Value High — tested Included VIN-matched
New OEM (dealer) $$$$$ 2-4× more High Manufacturer Exact
Aftermarket / Reman $$$$ Varies 6-12 mo May adapt
Junkyard $ Cheapest Unknown None DIY

Tested used OEM hits the sweet spot — same engineering as new, fraction of the cost.

2010 Dodge Engine Buying Guide

5 things to verify before buying a used 2010 Dodge engine:

  1. A 2010 Challenger 5.7L is identified by its engine ID, not just the VIN letter. We hold three 5.7L HEMI long-blocks for the Challenger this year — engine IDs EZC, EZH and EZD — all VIN T. They differ in calibration and accessory layout, so the letter alone will not place the right one. Read the ID stamp on your block or send us the VIN and we will read it for you.
  2. The 6.1L SRT8 ends with 2010 and never interchanges with a 5.7L. The 6.1L (VIN W) in the Challenger SRT8 and Charger SRT8 is a dedicated long-block with its own internals, calibration and accessory drive. A 5.7L will not substitute for it, and the 6.4L 392 that replaces it from 2011 will not either.
  3. The Grand Caravan ran three unrelated V6s in 2010. The 3.3L (VIN E) and 3.8L (VIN 1) are pushrod engines in their final year; the 4.0L (VIN X) is the SOHC V6 shared with the Nitro. None of the three is interchangeable with another. Read the 8th digit before you order a van engine.
  4. The Caliber and Avenger fours split on emissions hardware. We list the Caliber 2.0L (VIN A) and 2.4L (VIN B) both with and without the flow control valve mounted to the intake manifold, and the Avenger 2.4L as Federal engine ID ED3 or California EDG, the latter with and without the EGR valve. Tell us the state the car was built for and whether the valve is present.
  5. Confirm the match with your own VIN before you order. Text us your VIN and we will confirm the engine code, drivetrain and accessory layout against it, then send photos of the exact unit before anything ships.

Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any unit ships.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which 2010 Dodge engine fits my vehicle?
The 8th digit of your VIN is the engine code. On 2010 Dodge inventory that letter separates the 5.7L HEMI (T) from the 6.1L SRT8 (W), the 3.5L (V) from the 2.7L (D), and the 3.7L (K) from the 4.7L (P). Text the VIN to +1-307-441-5554 and we will read it and confirm the match before anything ships.
Is a 2010 Dodge pickup engine the same as a 2011 Ram engine?
Often yes mechanically, but the catalogue splits them, because 2010 is the last year the trucks are badged Dodge and 2011 is the first year Ram is its own brand. The 5.7L HEMI and 6.7L Cummins carry over; the V6 does not, since the 3.6L Pentastar replaces the 3.7L for 2011. Send the VIN and we will confirm rather than assume.
Why do you list three 5.7L engines for the 2010 Challenger?
Because Chrysler used three engine IDs — EZC, EZH and EZD — on the 2010 Challenger 5.7L, all under VIN T. Calibration and accessory layout differ between them, so we hold them as separate units instead of treating them as one part.
Can I put a 6.4L 392 in a car that came with the 6.1L?
Not as a direct swap. The 392 arrives for 2011 with its own internals, calibration and accessory layout and is not a drop-in replacement for the 2010 6.1L. If you need a 6.1L, we hold them for both the Challenger SRT8 and the Charger SRT8.
Which 2010 Dodge diesel do you stock?
Only the 6.7L Cummins inline-six (VIN L). It is listed for the Ram 2500, the Ram 3500 pickup and the Ram 3500 chassis cab separately, because the accessory drive and mounting differ between them. One listing reads simply "2010 Dodge 2500" with no Ram token — it is the same truck.
What does "flow control valve" mean on the Caliber listings?
It refers to a valve mounted to the intake manifold on some 2.0L and 2.4L builds. We list the units with and without it because the manifold and plumbing differ. If you are not sure which your car has, send the VIN and we will check.
What is covered, and what does shipping cost?
Every unit ships with a warranty and a 30-day money-back window, and freight to the lower 48 is free. We send photographs of the actual engine before it leaves the warehouse so you can approve it first.
One 2010 listing says only "Alternate Engine" — what is it?
One Caliber row reached us without a displacement or VIN letter in its title. We hold it honestly rather than guessing: send us your VIN and we will confirm the exact spec of that unit and photograph it for you before you commit.

Our 6-Step Inspection & Shipping Process

Every 2010 Dodge engine we ship has been through these six steps:

1. VIN-Matching
We match the donor VIN to your VIN to confirm engine code, generation, emissions calibration, and drivetrain fit.
2. Tested & Verified
ASE-certified technicians compression-test every cylinder and run leak-down evaluation on engines. Transmissions are Shift-Tested through all gears.
3. Noise & Smoke Verification
Units are run to verify normal mechanical sound and clean operation — catches internal wear static tests miss.
4. Visual Inspection
Every accessible component is inspected: turbos, manifolds, valve covers, housings, accessories, sensor harnesses.
5. Photograph & Catalog
Multi-angle photos sent to you BEFORE we ship for your approval.
6. Palletize & Ship
