Why Buy a Used Scion Engine from Auto Power Source
Scion was Toyota's youth brand from 2004 to 2016, and every Scion engine — with two important exceptions — is a Toyota engine under the badge. That parts commonality is Scion's greatest strength as a used market: a 2AZ-FE 2.4L in a Scion tC is the same long-block as the one in a Toyota Camry, and a 1NZ-FE 1.5L in an xA or xD is the same as the Yaris. But two Scion models break the pattern: the FR-S sports coupe uses a Subaru-built FA20 flat-four boxer (also badged Toyota 4U-GSE), and the 2016 Scion iA is a rebadged Mazda2 with a Mazda Skyactiv-G 1.5L engine.
Our 50+ Scion engines all come from low-mileage donor vehicles, cataloged by VIN, and held in our climate-controlled warehouse pending sale. Every unit clears our six-step process: VIN-matched to donor and target, ASE-certified compression test, leak-down evaluation, run-stand noise & smoke verification, visual inspection, multi-angle photographs sent for your approval, and palletized freight shipping. On 2AZ-FE units (tC 2005-2010, xB Gen 2) we specifically inspect head-bolt-thread condition. On FR-S FA20 units we source from Subaru BRZ donors and verify direct-injection carbon condition.
You pay a fraction of dealer pricing for identical Toyota (or Subaru, or Mazda) engineering, ship free on a heavy-duty pallet to any address in the continental U.S., and get 30 days from delivery to return — no restocking fees. Up to a 3-year warranty covers you after install. Across 100,000+ Engines+Transmissions In Stock, our fitment-related return rate stays at 0%.

Scion Engine Buying Guide
Five things to verify before buying a used Scion engine:
tC 2005-2010 vs 2011-2016 are completely different engines. First-generation tC (2005-2010) uses 2AZ-FE 2.4L; second-generation tC (2011-2016) uses 2AR-FE 2.5L. Different displacement, different injection strategy, different mounting hardware. Verify by production year — do not order by "tC engine" alone.
2AZ-FE head bolt stripping is documented on tC 2005-2010 and xB Gen 2. The Toyota 2AZ-FE 2.4L aluminum block (2005-2010 tC, 2008-2015 xB) is known for head bolt threads stripping in the block on high-mileage units. Symptoms include coolant loss and blown head gasket. We inspect every 2AZ before sale and disclose any signs of prior head work.
FR-S uses a Subaru-built FA20 — sourced from Subaru donors. The Scion FR-S (2013-2016) shares its FA20 2.0L boxer engine with the Subaru BRZ (and later Toyota 86/GR86). The engine is Subaru-manufactured, so replacement units come from Subaru BRZ donors more often than from FR-S donors. Same long-block, same specs — verify by engine code.
Scion iA (2016) is a rebadged Mazda2 — not a Toyota. The final-year Scion iA (2016 only) is a badge-engineered Mazda2 sedan with a Mazda Skyactiv-G 1.5L engine. Sourcing comes from Mazda2 or later Yaris iA (2017-2018) donors, not from Toyota. Very rare in the used market — confirm chassis code before ordering.
xA/xB Gen 1/xD share the 1NZ-FE 1.5L — abundant sourcing. The Toyota 1NZ-FE 1.5L four powers the Scion xA (2004-2006), xB first generation (2004-2006), and xD (2008-2014), as well as Toyota Yaris/Echo. Bulletproof if maintained, huge donor pool. This is the easiest Scion engine to source and one of the most affordable Toyota fours available.
Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any engine ships.

Up to 3 years, depending on the specific unit. The exact warranty term is listed on each product page.
What does ASE-tested mean?
ASE-certified technicians compression-test every cylinder and run leak-down evaluation on engines. Plus noise & smoke verification, visual inspection, and multi-angle photography before shipment.
How long until delivery?
Prep and ship time is 3-5 business days. Transit time is 2-3 business days after dispatch via freight carrier.
Can I see photos before I buy?
Yes. Multi-angle photos of the actual unit sent before payment.
Do I need my VIN?
Strongly recommended for exact-fit matching. Scion engines vary significantly by trim, body style, and year.
What if I do not approve the photos?
Every dollar back. No restocking fees, no return freight charges.
Why cheaper than dealer new?
Used OEM from low-mileage donors. Same Scion engineering, fraction of the cost.
Every Scion engine you buy earns rewards. 10 orders (yours or referred) = $500 cash credit. Silver, Gold, and Platinum tiers with discounts, priority support, and private inventory access.
Every Scion engine we ship has been through these six steps:
1. VIN-Matching
We match the donor VIN to your VIN to confirm engine code, emissions calibration, and drivetrain fit.
2. Tested & Verified
ASE-certified technicians compression-test every cylinder and run leak-down evaluation on each engine. Transmissions are Shift-Tested through all gears.
3. Noise & Smoke Verification
Engines are run on the test stand to verify normal mechanical sound, clean exhaust, and no abnormal smoke — catches internal wear static pressure tests miss.
4. Visual Inspection
Every accessible component is inspected: turbos, manifolds, valve covers, accessories, sensor harnesses.
5. Photograph & Catalog
Multi-angle photos sent to you BEFORE we ship for your approval.
6. Palletize & Ship
Strapped on a heavy-duty wooden pallet, shipped via freight at no charge.
Our Photos-Before-Shipment Guarantee
