1. Match the engine code by VIN. Scion engines often share displacement but differ in compression, valvetrain, and emissions hardware. Always verify the engine code, not just "3.5L V6" — it could be one of several different units.
2. Confirm trim and emissions package. California-emissions ULEV variants, federal-emissions models, and PZEV variants often share displacement but use different ECU calibration and exhaust hardware.
3. Verify auto vs. manual transmission application. Scion flywheel and starter geometry can differ between AT and MT applications even at the same displacement.
4. For turbocharged variants, ask about turbo condition. Inspect the turbocharger compressor and turbine wheels, wastegate, and intercooler condition before paying.
