Why Buy a Used Mini Cooper Transmission from Auto Power Source
Mini has changed transmissions inside the same model name every generation — the R50 Cooper ran a five-speed, then a six-speed and a CVT automatic; the R56 moved to a Getrag six-speed and an Aisin six-speed automatic; the F56 added a 1.5L three-cylinder with its own gearbox and, from mid-2019, a seven-speed dual-clutch; and the Clubman and Countryman jumped to an eight-speed with ALL4. The same year and badge can carry a Base or S unit with a different converter, a manual with or without limited slip, or a FWD or ALL4 unit with a different case. Every product on this page is titled by AT or MT, gear count, Base, S or John Cooper Works, engine size, FWD or AWD, and build-date split where Mini made one. Our 435 verified Mini Cooper transmissions cover the whole run: the Aisin six-speed automatic and Getrag six-speed manual of the R56 Cooper and R55 Clubman, the R50 CVT and five- and six-speed manuals, the Countryman and Paceman FWD and ALL4 units, the F56 six-speed automatic, manual and seven-speed DCT, the Clubman and Countryman eight-speed, and the JCW limited-slip units.
Every Mini Cooper transmission we sell has been pulled from a low-mileage donor vehicle, cataloged by VIN, and held in our climate-controlled warehouse pending sale. Each unit goes through our six-step inspection — VIN-matching against the donor and against your vehicle, Shift-Testing through every gear under load, noise verification, full visual inspection of case, pan and bellhousing, multi-angle photography for your approval, and palletized freight. CVT units get a belt and pulley check, six- and eight-speed automatics get a valve-body and solenoid check under load, DCT units get a clutch-pack and mechatronic inspection, and ALL4 units have the rear take-off inspected. Rejected units never reach the buyer.
You pay a fraction of dealer-new pricing for the same Mini engineering, ship free on a heavy-duty pallet anywhere in the continental U.S., and have 30 days from delivery to return for any reason — no restocking fees. The warranty printed on the listing — with extended coverage up to 3 years available — covers you if anything goes wrong after install. Across 100K+ engines and transmissions in stock, we hold a 0% fitment-related return rate.

Mini Cooper Transmission Buying Guide
5 things to verify before buying a used Mini Cooper transmission:
-
Match AT or MT and the gear count first — Mini changed gearboxes inside the same model. The R50 Cooper ran a five-speed, then a six-speed and a CVT, the F56 a six-speed automatic and then a seven-speed DCT, and the listings say (5 Speed), (6 Speed) or ID GACVT16Z for that reason. A five-speed will not bolt to a six-speed car and a CVT will not swap for a torque-converter automatic — match the gear count, not the model.
-
Base and S model units are different transmissions. The Cooper S and JCW carry a different torque converter, ratios and final drive from the Base Cooper of the same year, and the JCW adds a limited slip differential. Every listing says Base, S model or John Cooper Works — match it to your trim.
-
FWD and ALL4 units are listed separately. On the Countryman, Paceman and Clubman the ALL4 transmission carries the power take-off for the rear axle and the FWD unit does not. Every listing says FWD or AWD; a front-drive unit will not drive an ALL4 car.
-
Watch the engine size and build-date split. The F-generation 1.5L three-cylinder and 2.0L four carry different bellhousings and converters, the 2010 Clubman is listed thru 1/10 and from 2/10, the R50 CVT by steering wheel shifter control, and the 2019–2020 Cooper S manual thru 07/30/19. Compare your build date and engine to the listing before ordering.
-
Confirm the match with your own VIN before you order. Your VIN settles the transmission code, drivetrain and build split in one step. Text it to +1-307-441-5554 and we will confirm in writing exactly which unit fits your vehicle before you pay.
Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any unit ships.
