Why Buy a Used Infiniti Engine from Auto Power Source

Infiniti is Nissan's premium brand, and every Infiniti engine is a Nissan engine underneath — the VQ35DE and VQ35HR that power G35 and M35 are shared with Nissan Altima, Maxima, and 350Z; the VQ37VHR in G37 is the same block as 370Z; the VK56 V8 in QX56 and QX80 is shared with Nissan Titan and Armada; the VR30DDTT twin-turbo in Q50 3.0T is the modern Nissan flagship six. That parts commonality means donor sourcing is flexible — a Nissan chassis engine can VIN-match an Infiniti target when the engine code aligns. Engine code precision matters: VQ35DE vs VQ35HR are meaningfully different (heads, ECU, valve timing), and the VC-Turbo KR20DDET in QX50 is a unique variable-compression engine with specialist parts requirements.

Our 300+ Infiniti engines all come from low-mileage donor vehicles, cataloged by VIN, and held in our climate-controlled warehouse. Every unit clears our six-step process: VIN-matched to donor and target, ASE-certified compression test on every cylinder, leak-down evaluation, run-stand noise & smoke verification, visual inspection, multi-angle photographs for your approval, and palletized freight. On VQ35 units we verify DE vs HR distinction against your VIN. On VQ37VHR units we inspect timing chain condition and oil consumption history. On VR30DDTT direct-injection twin-turbo units we verify carbon condition and inspect turbo actuator health. On VK56 V8 units (QX56/QX80/M56) we inspect timing chain guide condition. On KR20DDET VC-Turbo units we handle sourcing individually — specialist parts.

You pay a fraction of dealer pricing for identical Infiniti engineering, ship free on a heavy-duty pallet to any address in the continental U.S., and get 30 days from delivery to return — no restocking fees. Up to a 3-year warranty covers you after install. Across 100,000+ Engines+Transmissions In Stock, our fitment-related return rate stays at 0%.

Infiniti Engine Buying Guide

Five things to verify before buying a used Infiniti engine:

  1. VQ35DE vs VQ35HR non-interchange — verify by year. The G35 sedan uses VQ35DE (2003-2006 model years) and VQ35HR (2007-2008). Different heads, different ECU calibration, different cam profiles, and higher redline on HR. They will bolt in but factory power and emissions targets won't match if wrong variant is installed. Verify by production year (not just G35 badge) and by engine code from your VIN.
  2. VK56DE early oil consumption and timing chain wear. The VK56DE V8 in QX56 (2004-2010) has documented timing chain guide wear past 100K miles and oil consumption on some units. Symptoms include ticking at cold start, extended cranking, and oil warnings between changes. We inspect chain guide condition via borescope on high-mileage VK56DE units. 2011+ VK56VD (direct injection) is a different engine.
  3. VR30DDTT direct-injection carbon buildup (Q50/Q60 Red Sport). The VR30DDTT 3.0L twin-turbo V6 in Q50 3.0T (2016+) and Q60 Red Sport 400 (2017+) uses direct injection — carbon buildup on intake valves is expected past 60K miles. Symptoms include cold-start misfires and reduced throttle response. Walnut-blast intake ports at install for best result — factor into install cost.
  4. KR20DDET VC-Turbo is a unique engine — specialist parts. The KR20DDET Variable Compression Turbo in QX50 (2019+) and QX55 uses an industry-first variable compression ratio (8:1 to 14:1) mechanism. This is not a conventional turbo four — specialist parts, specialist repair procedures, limited aftermarket support. Verify no aftermarket tuning history and confirm dealer service records where possible before purchase.
  5. Infiniti engines are Nissan-shared — donor flexibility is high. Because Infiniti's engines are Nissan-corporate (VQ35/VQ37 shared with 350Z/370Z/Altima/Maxima, VK56 shared with Titan/Armada, VR30DDTT is Nissan's, VC-Turbo shared with Nissan Altima VC-T), a donor engine from a Nissan chassis can VIN-match an Infiniti target when the engine code aligns. This expands sourcing significantly — text us your VIN and target build for cross-brand matching.

Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any engine ships.

Our 6-Step Inspection & Shipping Process

Every Infiniti engine we ship has been through these six steps:

1. VIN-Matching
We match the donor VIN to your VIN to confirm engine code, emissions calibration, and drivetrain fit.
2. Tested & Verified
ASE-certified technicians compression-test every cylinder and run leak-down evaluation on each engine. Transmissions are Shift-Tested through all gears.
3. Noise & Smoke Verification
Engines are run on the test stand to verify normal mechanical sound, clean exhaust, and no abnormal smoke — catches internal wear static pressure tests miss.
4. Visual Inspection
Every accessible component is inspected: turbos, manifolds, valve covers, accessories, sensor harnesses.
5. Photograph & Catalog
Multi-angle photos sent to you BEFORE we ship for your approval.
6. Palletize & Ship
Strapped on a heavy-duty wooden pallet, shipped via freight at no charge.

Our Photos-Before-Shipment Guarantee
