Why Buy a 2012 Ford Engine from Auto Power Source

2012 is the second year of Ford's rebuilt powertrain lineup, which is what makes the 8th VIN digit decisive across our 78 units. The F-150 had dropped the Triton V8s a year earlier and now ran four unrelated engines — 3.7L Ti-VCT, 5.0L Coyote, 3.5L EcoBoost and the 6.2L Boss in the SVT Raptor — none of which interchange. The Super Duty ran Ford's own 6.7L Power Stroke instead of a Navistar diesel, with the 6.2L Boss as the gas option. The E-Series kept the older Triton architecture: 4.6L Romeo two-valve, 5.4L three-valve and 6.8L V10, each sold in gas, E85, CNG and LPG-prep builds with different valves and seats.

Several 2012 engines are one-year or final-year parts, so we catalogue them separately. The Shelby GT500's supercharged 5.4L V8 gave way to a 5.8L for 2013, and the Transit Connect Electric drive unit was built only for 2011 and 2012. 2012 closed out the second-generation Escape with its 2.5L Atkinson-cycle hybrid, and the first-generation Fusion. The new third-generation Focus arrived with a 2.0L Ti-VCT direct-injection four that splits on a 06/01/11 build date, and the 2.0L EcoBoost was new to the Explorer and Edge. Displacement alone will not identify a 2012 Ford engine.

Every 2012 Ford engine we sell is used OEM from a low-mileage donor vehicle, cataloged by VIN and held in our climate-controlled warehouse. Each unit goes through our six-step inspection — VIN-matching against your vehicle, compression testing on every cylinder with a leak-down evaluation, noise and smoke verification, full visual inspection, multi-angle photography for your approval, and palletized freight. You pay a fraction of dealer pricing, ship free anywhere in the continental U.S., and have 30 days from delivery to return for any reason — no restocking fees.

Your 2012 Ford Engine Options: Compared

Most 2012 Ford owners face four real choices when the engine fails:

← Swipe sideways to see all columns →
Option Cost Reliability Warranty Fitment Match
Used OEM (this collection) $$$ Best Value High — tested Included VIN-matched
New OEM (dealer) $$$$$ 2-4× more High Manufacturer Exact
Aftermarket / Reman $$$$ Varies 6-12 mo May adapt
Junkyard $ Cheapest Unknown None DIY

Tested used OEM hits the sweet spot — same engineering as new, fraction of the cost.

2012 Ford Engine Buying Guide

5 things to verify before buying a used 2012 Ford engine:

  1. Match the 8th VIN digit, not the displacement. Every listing here is identified by that digit. The 2012 F-150 3.5L is VIN T EcoBoost; the 3.7L is VIN M and shares nothing with it. The Mustang 5.4L is supercharged, not a Triton.
  2. On the E-Series, pick the fuel build as well as the size. The 4.6L, 5.4L and 6.8L are each listed as Gasoline, Flex Fuel (E85), CNG or LPG. CNG and LPG-prep units carry hardened valves and seats and do not interchange with the gas build.
  3. On the Super Duty, diesel and gas are separate listings. The 6.7L Power Stroke (VIN T) splits into Pickup and Chassis Cab on the F-350. The 6.2L Boss gas V8 (VIN 6) is listed as Gasoline, CNG or LPG.
  4. Hybrids and mid-year splits are their own engines. The Fusion and Escape 2.5L Hybrid is VIN 3 and does not swap with the conventional 2.5L VIN A or VIN 7. The Focus 2.0L and Edge 3.7L both split on build date — 06/01/11 and 01/01/12.
  5. Confirm the match with your own VIN before you order. Your VIN settles the engine code, fuel build and mid-year split in one step. Text it to +1-307-441-5554 and we confirm in writing which unit fits before you pay.

Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any unit ships.
