MDX, RL, TL, TLX V6, RDX 2013+. Honda J-series 3.5L SOHC V6 with VCM (Variable Cylinder Management) on many years — VCM oil consumption is documented on MDX/Pilot-shared donor vehicles. We verify ring condition on all J35 units in inventory.

K24 I4 i-VTEC (TSX/RDX/ILX)

TSX (2004-2014), RDX 2007-2012 (turbocharged K23), ILX 2013-2015. K24A2 (TSX) and K24A4 (early Accord/TSX) are DIFFERENT tunes and NOT interchangeable — verify by engine code, not displacement.

J37 3.7L V6

RL 3.7 (2009-2012), ZDX (2010-2013), MDX 2014-2020, TL SH-AWD (2009-2014). Larger displacement variant of J35 with SH-AWD applications. Non-VCM on most trims — cleaner sourcing than J35 VCM.

K20C1 Turbo I4 (Integra/TLX)

Integra Type S (2024+, shared with Civic Type R), some TLX variants. 2.0L direct-injection turbo I4 — Honda's high-output four. Very specific — verify by chassis code, not year alone. Direct injection carbon buildup expected past 60K.

J35Y6 3.5L Turbo V6 (Type S)

TLX Type S (2021+), MDX Type S (2022+). Twin-turbo 3.0L V6 (labeled 3.5L on some catalog systems) — the highest-output modern Acura engine. Year-locked to Type S applications — verify chassis before ordering.

C30A 3.0L V6 (NSX)

NSX first generation (1991-2005). Naturally-aspirated VTEC V6, mid-mounted in the original NSX. Very rare donor units — specialist sourcing. High-value collector engine — verify service history against track use before purchase.

JNC1 Hybrid Twin-Turbo V6 (NSX)

NSX second generation (2017-2022). 3.5L twin-turbo hybrid V6 with electric motors — year-locked to the NSX hybrid system, cannot be transplanted without the full hybrid drivetrain. Rare, specialist sourcing.

K20Z3 2.0L (RSX Type S)

RSX Type S (2005-2006 ONLY). 2.0L i-VTEC — different from K20A2 (2002-2004 RSX Type S) in intake ports and cam profiles. Verify by production year — 2005+ RSX Type S is K20Z3, earlier is K20A2.

B18C 1.8L VTEC (Integra Type R)

Integra Type R (1997-2001), GS-R (1994-2001). Legendary Honda B-series VTEC 1.8L — 195hp naturally-aspirated. Very high enthusiast demand, verify no aftermarket tuning history and no track abuse.

F23A 2.3L SOHC VTEC

CL 2.3 (1998-1999). Honda F-series 2.3L SOHC VTEC — shared with Accord 2.3 VTEC. Simple, durable, huge parts availability. Vintage donor pool — verify oil pressure at idle before install.

C32A 3.2L V6 (Legend)

Legend 3.2 (1991-1995). Honda C-series 3.2L V6 — the last of the true Legends before the RL naming. Rare vintage donor. Timing belt is mandatory replacement at install.

Acura Engine Buying Guide

Five things to verify before buying a used Acura engine:

1. J-series VCM oil consumption is the primary risk. Honda's Variable Cylinder Management on J35 V6 units (many Acura MDX, RL, TL applications 2005+) is documented to cause piston ring wear and oil consumption on high-mileage donors. Symptoms include low oil warnings between changes and fouled plugs. We inspect ring condition on every J-series VCM unit before listing and disclose service history.
2. K24A2 vs K24A4 vs K24W — engine code, not just displacement. Acura's 2.4L K-series engines come in multiple tunes with different intake, exhaust, and cam profiles. TSX K24A2 (200hp) is NOT the same as Accord K24A4 (166hp) or later ILX K24W. Verify the exact engine code against your VIN before ordering — installing the wrong K24 variant will bolt in but won't hit factory power or emissions calibration.
3. K20A2 vs K20Z3 non-interchange on RSX Type S. RSX Type S 2002-2004 uses K20A2 (200hp). RSX Type S 2005-2006 uses K20Z3 (210hp). Different intake manifold, different cams, different ECU calibration. Verify by production year — RSX enthusiasts value the K20A2 vs K20Z3 distinction; they are not drop-in interchangeable at OEM spec.
4. B18C and C30A are rare/collector-grade — specialist sourcing. Integra Type R B18C1/B18C5 and original NSX C30A engines are collector-tier donor units. 5. TLX/MDX Type S J35Y6 twin-turbo year-locked to 2021+. The turbocharged J35Y6 (labeled 3.0L or 3.5L Twin-Turbo depending on catalog) in TLX Type S (2021+) and MDX Type S (2022+) is a completely different engine from naturally-aspirated J35. Verify chassis code (not just VIN year) — Type S trims use this engine only, non-Type S trims use J35Y6-related NA variants.
