Saab Engines We Cover

Real Saab engines from our warehouse, tested and ready to ship. A single model year can ship with more than one engine, so match by engine code rather than by vehicle — text us your VIN and we will confirm it.

Used Saab 9-3 2.0T B207 (VIN S / Y / N, 2003–2011) engine
9-3 2.0T B207 (VIN S / Y / N, 2003–2011)
9-3 Sedan, SportCombi and Convertible (2003–2011), 9-3X (2010–2011). Our deepest Saab line — the Ecotec-based B207, listed as B207L (VIN S, low pressure turbo), B207R (VIN Y, high pressure turbo) or B207S (VIN N), and on the 2009–2011 cars by FWD or AWD (XWD), because the three tunes carry different turbos, pistons and controllers.
Used Saab 9-5 2.3T B235 (VIN E / A / G, 1999–2009) engine
9-5 2.3T B235 (VIN E / A / G, 1999–2009)
9-5 Sedan and Wagon (1999–2009), 9-3 Viggen (2000–2002). The 2.3L turbo four of the 9-5 — listed as B235E (VIN E, light pressure), B235L (VIN A) or B235R (VIN G, Aero and Viggen), and by B234 (VIN B) on the 2000 base car, because the Aero unit carries its own turbo, intercooler plumbing and calibration.
Used Saab 9-3 2.0T B205 and Viggen (VIN H / K / G, 2000–2003) engine
9-3 2.0T B205 and Viggen (VIN H / K / G, 2000–2003)
9-3 Hatchback and Convertible (2000–2003), 9-3 Viggen. The first-generation 9-3 fours — listed as B205L (VIN H, low pressure turbo), B205R (VIN K, high pressure turbo) or B235R Viggen (VIN G), and by Conv or Htbk (5 Dr) on the 2003 cars, because the low- and high-pressure units carry different turbos and controllers.
Used Saab 9-3 2.8T V6 B284 (VIN U / R, 2006–2009) engine
9-3 2.8T V6 B284 (VIN U / R, 2006–2009)
9-3 Aero (2006–2009), 9-3 Turbo X and XWD (2008–2009). The 2.8L turbocharged High Feature V6 — listed by VIN U (FWD) or VIN R (AWD, XWD) and by 6 cylinder, turbo, because the XWD unit carries different mounts and the transfer-case pickup.
Used Saab 9-5 3.0T V6 B308 (VIN Z, 1999–2003) engine
9-5 3.0T V6 B308 (VIN Z, 1999–2003)
9-5 Griffin and SE (1999–2003). The 3.0L asymmetrically turbocharged 54-degree V6 — listed by VIN Z (8th digit) and B308 because it shares its block family with the GM 3.0 V6 but carries a Saab-only turbo, intake and controller, and will not swap for the 2.3 four of the same year.
Used Saab 9000 2.3L B234 Turbo and Non-Turbo (VIN B / M / R / U, 1990–1998) engine
9000 2.3L B234 Turbo and Non-Turbo (VIN B / M / R / U, 1990–1998)
9000, 9000 CS, CSE and Aero (1990–1998), 9000 3.0 V6 (1995–1997). The 2.3L four of the 9000 — listed as w/o turbo (VIN B), turbo VIN M, VIN R or VIN U (Aero), and the 3.0L V6 by VIN W, because the light-pressure, full-pressure and Aero turbos carry different pistons, turbos and controllers.
Used Saab Classic 900 2.0L, 2.1L, 2.3L and 2.5L V6 (1990–1998) engine
Classic 900 2.0L, 2.1L, 2.3L and 2.5L V6 (1990–1998)
900 and 900 Turbo (1990–1993), 900 NG (1994–1998). The classic 900 engines — listed by exc. turbo (VIN D) or turbo (VIN L, VIN S), 2.1L (VIN E), B204L 2.0 turbo (VIN N), B234i 2.3 (VIN B), the 2.5L V6 (VIN V), and by Conv or Htbk on the 1994 changeover, because the 1993 and 1994 cars share nothing below the badge.
Used Saab 9-7X 4.2L I6, 5.3L V8 and 6.0L LS2 (VIN S / M / H, 2005–2009) engine
9-7X 4.2L I6, 5.3L V8 and 6.0L LS2 (VIN S / M / H, 2005–2009)
9-7X 4.2i, 5.3i and Aero (2005–2009). The GM-built engines of the Trailblazer-platform 9-7X — listed by VIN S (4.2L inline-six, opt LL8), VIN M (5.3L V8, opt LH6) or VIN H (6.0L LS2 Aero) because the three share nothing but the bellhousing pattern.
Used Saab 9-5 NG 2.0T LHU / 2.8T LAU and 9-2X 2.0L / 2.5L (2005–2011) engine
9-5 NG 2.0T LHU / 2.8T LAU and 9-2X 2.0L / 2.5L (2005–2011)
9-5 (2010–2011), 9-2X (2005–2006). The last and the odd ones — the new-generation 9-5 listed by VIN R (2.0L turbo, opt LHU) or VIN J (2.8L turbo V6, opt LAU) with the model VIN G (4th digit), and the Subaru-built 9-2X by VIN 2 (2.0L), VIN 6 (2.5L) or VIN 7 (2.5L turbo) in the 6th digit.

Why Buy a Used Saab Engine from Auto Power Source

Saab named its engines by B-code and tuned the same block three ways — a 2.0T 9-3 is a B205L, a B205R, a B207L, a B207R or a B207S depending on the year and the turbo pressure; a 2.3T 9-5 is a B235E, a B235L or a B235R Aero; a 9000 2.3 is a non-turbo VIN B or a turbo VIN M, R or U; and the 9-7X and 9-2X carry GM and Subaru engines under a Saab badge. Every product on this page is titled by the B-code, by the VIN engine digit (8th on most, 7th on the 1990 900, 6th on the 9-2X), by low pressure or high pressure turbo, by FWD or AWD (XWD), and by body where Saab split the engine. Our 136 verified Saab engines cover the whole run: the B207 and B205 fours of the 9-3, the B235 of the 9-5, the 2.8T V6 and 3.0T V6, the 9000 B234, the classic 900 engines, the 9-7X six and V8s, and the new-generation 9-5 and 9-2X.

Every Saab engine we sell has been pulled from a low-mileage donor vehicle, cataloged by VIN, and held in our climate-controlled warehouse pending sale. Each unit goes through our six-step inspection — VIN-matching against the donor and against your vehicle, compression and leak-down testing of every cylinder, noise verification, full visual inspection of block, head and timing cover, multi-angle photography for your approval, and palletized freight. Turbo units get a turbo-shaft, wastegate and PCV inspection, the B205 and B235 fours a sludge and oil-pickup check, the B207 a balance-shaft chain check, and the 2.8T V6 a timing-chain and cam-phaser review. Rejected units never reach the buyer.

You pay a fraction of dealer-new pricing for the same Saab engineering, ship free on a heavy-duty pallet anywhere in the continental U.S., and have 30 days from delivery to return for any reason — no restocking fees. The warranty printed on the listing — with extended coverage up to 3 years available — covers you if anything goes wrong after install. Across 100K+ engines and transmissions in stock, we hold a 0% fitment-related return rate.

Your Saab Engine Options: Compared

Most Saab owners face four real choices when the engine fails:

← Swipe sideways to see all columns →
Option Cost Reliability Warranty Fitment Match
Used OEM (this collection) $$$ Best Value High — tested Included VIN-matched
New OEM (dealer) $$$$$ 2-4× more High Manufacturer Exact
Aftermarket / Reman $$$$ Varies 6-12 mo May adapt
Junkyard $ Cheapest Unknown None DIY

Tested used OEM hits the sweet spot — same engineering as new, fraction of the cost.

Saab Engine Buying Guide

5 things to verify before buying a used Saab engine:

  1. Match the B-code first — the same 2.0T badge covers five different engines. A 9-3 2.0T is a B205L, B205R, B207L, B207R or B207S, and the 9-5 2.3T a B235E, B235L or B235R. Every listing carries the B-code and the VIN letter behind it (VIN S, Y, N, H, K, E, A, G). Match the code to your VIN, not the displacement to the badge.
  2. Low pressure and high pressure turbo units are different engines. The R units (B205R, B207R, B235R Aero and Viggen) carry a larger turbo, different pistons and their own controller against the L, E and S units of the same year. Every listing says low pressure turbo or high pressure turbo — an L engine on an R harness will not run right.
  3. Read the VIN digit the listing names — Saab moved it. Most Saab engines are coded in the 8th VIN digit; the 1990 900 turbo is coded in the 7th (VIN L, VIN S), the Subaru-built 9-2X in the 6th (VIN 2, 6, 7), and the 2010 9-5 carries a model code in the 4th (VIN G). Every listing says which digit — read that one.
  4. Watch FWD or XWD, the body split and the GM option codes. The 2008–2011 9-3 and 9-3X 2.0T and 2.8T are listed by FWD or AWD (XWD), the 1994 900 and 2003 9-3 by Conv or Htbk, and the 9-7X and new 9-5 by GM option code (LL8, LH6, LS2, LHU, LAU). Compare the listing to your build sheet before ordering.
  5. Confirm the match with your own VIN before you order. Your VIN settles the engine code, drivetrain and build split in one step. Text it to +1-307-441-5554 and we will confirm in writing exactly which unit fits your vehicle before you pay.

Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any unit ships.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the warranty on a used Saab engine?
Every Saab engine ships with a warranty included — the standard term follows the model year (1 month for 1990, 3 months for 1991–2000, 6 months for 2001 and newer) and is printed on each product page. Extended coverage of up to 3 years is available at checkout.
What does ASE-tested mean?
ASE-certified technicians compression-test every cylinder and run leak-down evaluation on engines; transmissions are Shift-Tested through all gears under load. Plus noise & smoke verification, visual inspection, and multi-angle photography before shipment.
How long until delivery?
Prep and ship time is 3-5 business days. Transit time is 2-3 business days after dispatch via freight carrier — typically 5-8 business days from order to delivery.
Can I see photos before I buy?
Yes. Multi-angle photos of the actual unit are sent before payment. If you do not approve the photos, you get every dollar back — no restocking fees, no return freight charges.
Do I need my VIN?
Yes — essential on Saab. The 8th VIN digit carries the engine code on most cars (VIN S, Y, N for the B207; VIN E, A, G for the B235; VIN U, R for the 2.8T V6), the 1990 900 turbo uses the 7th and the 9-2X the 6th, and the code separates a low pressure turbo from a high pressure turbo of the same displacement. Text your VIN to +1-307-441-5554 and we will confirm the exact engine, including valid Chevrolet, Opel and Subaru donors.
Will a Chevrolet, Opel or Subaru engine fit my Saab?
Sometimes — the 9-7X shares its 4.2L, 5.3L and 6.0L with the Chevrolet Trailblazer SS and GMC Envoy, the 9-2X shares its 2.0L and 2.5L with the Subaru Impreza and WRX, the 2010–2011 9-5 shares its LHU and LAU engines with the Buick Regal and LaCrosse, and the 9-3 2.8T shares its block with the Cadillac SRX and Opel Vectra, but only when the year, VIN code and turbo tune match. The B205, B235 and 9000 engines are Saab-only. Text your VIN and we will confirm which donors are valid.
Why cheaper than dealer new?
Used OEM from low-mileage donor vehicles. Same Saab engineering as factory new at a fraction of the cost — dealers are typically 2-4x our pricing, and many older units are no longer available new at all.

Our 6-Step Inspection & Shipping Process

Every Saab engine we ship has been through these six steps:

1. VIN-Matching
We match the donor VIN to your VIN to confirm the B-code, low or high pressure turbo, the VIN engine digit, FWD or XWD, body style, and any GM option code.
2. Tested & Verified
ASE-certified technicians compression-test every cylinder and run leak-down evaluation. Turbo units get a turbo-shaft, wastegate and PCV inspection; B205 and B235 fours a sludge and oil-pickup check; B207 units a balance-shaft chain check; the 2.8T V6 a timing-chain and cam-phaser review.
3. Noise & Smoke Verification
Units are run to verify normal mechanical sound and clean operation — catches internal wear static tests miss.
4. Visual Inspection
Every accessible component is inspected: turbos, manifolds, valve covers, housings, accessories, sensor harnesses.
5. Photograph & Catalog
Multi-angle photos sent to you BEFORE we ship for your approval.
6. Palletize & Ship
Strapped on a heavy-duty wooden pallet, shipped via freight at no charge.

Our Photos-Before-Shipment Guarantee

Before any engine leaves our warehouse, we send you multi-angle photographs. You approve.
