Mercedes Transmissions We Cover

Real transmissions from our warehouse, VIN-matched and ready to ship. Mercedes runs its own in-house transmission family — 722.x and 725.0 automatics, 724.0 7G-DCT, plus the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT and DCT variants for M-series performance cars. Understanding which family your car uses is the single biggest fitment decision.

Why Buy a Used Mercedes Transmission from Auto Power Source

Mercedes transmissions are almost entirely in-house designs — the 722.x and 725.0 automatic families are engineered and built at Mercedes' Untertürkheim plant, not sourced from ZF like most BMW and Audi units. That means the 722.9 7-speed and 725.0 9-speed have Mercedes-specific TCM calibration, conductor plates, and fluid specs that do not cross to other brands even where the case looks similar. The 722.6 5G-Tronic is the one major exception: it was licensed to Chrysler and Jeep as the NAG1, but with completely different TCM calibration — a 722.6 pulled from an E-Class will physically bolt into a Grand Cherokee but the shift logic and gear ratios are not right without a TCM swap.

Every Mercedes transmission we sell has been pulled from a low-mileage donor vehicle, cataloged by VIN, and held in our climate-controlled warehouse. Each unit went through our six-step inspection — VIN-matching, ASE Shift-Testing through every gear under load, noise & smoke verification, full visual inspection, multi-angle photography, and palletized shipping. 7G-Tronic 722.9 units get an additional conductor plate (13-pin connector) inspection — that is the most common failure point on the 7-speed family and we flag any unit showing signs of leaking or slow gear engagement. Rejected units never reach the buyer.

You pay a fraction of dealer-new pricing for identical Mercedes engineering, ship free on a heavy-duty pallet anywhere in the continental U.S., and get 30 days from delivery to return for any reason — no restocking fees. Up to a 3-year warranty covers you if anything goes wrong after install. Across 100,000+ engines and transmissions shipped, we hold a 0% fitment-related return rate.

Your Mercedes Transmission Options: Compared

Most Mercedes owners face four real choices when their transmission fails:

← Swipe sideways to see all columns →
Option Cost Reliability Warranty Fitment Match
Used OEM (this collection) $$$ Best Value High Up to 3 years VIN-matched
New OEM (dealer) $$$$$ 2-4× more High Manufacturer Exact
Rebuilt / Reman $$$$ Varies 6-12 mo May adapt
Junkyard $ Cheapest Unknown None DIY

Tested used OEM hits the sweet spot — same engineering as new, fraction of the cost.

Mercedes Transmission Buying Guide

Mercedes runs at least seven distinct transmission families across its US lineup, and they are not cross-compatible even where the case looks similar. Five things to verify before buying a used Mercedes transmission:

  1. Identify your transmission family by the 722.x / 724.x / 725.x code. Mercedes stamps the transmission code on the case tag and references it in the VIN data block. The 722.6 (5G-Tronic), 722.9 (7G-Tronic), 725.0 (9G-Tronic), and 724.0 (7G-DCT) all serve different generations and are NOT interchangeable. Text us your full VIN and we will confirm the exact code before quoting.
  2. AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT and DCT are different transmissions. Despite sharing the SPEEDSHIFT name, the AMG MCT is a wet-clutch torque-converter automatic (E63/S63/CLS63/ML63/GL63) while the AMG DCT is a true dual-clutch transaxle (SLS AMG, AMG GT). They have different case layouts, different mounting, and different service procedures — do not confuse them.
  3. For 4MATIC vehicles, transfer case and transmission must match. Mercedes 4MATIC transfer cases are chassis-specific and paired to a particular transmission family. A 4MATIC transfer case from a W211 E-Class will not adapt to a W205 C-Class even though both are 4MATIC. When ordering, verify chassis, transmission code, and transfer-case part number together.
  4. 722.6 (NAG1) needs a TCM check if crossed from Chrysler/Jeep. The 722.6 5G-Tronic was licensed to Chrysler and Jeep as the NAG1. The case, gear ratios, and mechanical internals are identical, but Chrysler used a different TCM calibration. A NAG1 pulled from a Grand Cherokee will bolt into an E-Class but the shift logic and torque converter lockup will be wrong — source Mercedes-specific 722.6, not a NAG1.
  5. Fluid spec matters: 236.14 for 7G-Tronic, 236.15 for 9G-Tronic. Mercedes automatic transmission fluid specs are not interchangeable across generations. The 722.9 7G-Tronic uses MB 236.14 (blue fluid); the 725.0 9G-Tronic uses MB 236.15. Using the wrong fluid will cause shift quality issues and long-term wear. Plan to replace fluid at install with the correct spec.

Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any transmission ships.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the warranty on a used Mercedes transmission?
Up to 3 years, depending on the specific unit. The exact warranty term is listed on each product page.
What does ASE-tested mean?
ASE-certified technicians Shift-Test transmissions through all gears under load, plus noise & smoke verification, visual inspection, and multi-angle photography before shipment.
How long until delivery?
Prep and ship time is 3-5 business days. Transit time is 2-3 business days after dispatch via freight carrier.
Can I see photos before I buy?
Yes. Multi-angle photos of the actual unit sent before payment.
Do I need my VIN?
Yes — essential. Mercedes transmissions vary by family (722.6/722.9/725.0/724.0/AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT/DCT), drivetrain (RWD vs 4MATIC), and platform (longitudinal C/E/S/CLS/GL vs transverse CLA/GLA/A). Your VIN decodes the transmission code we need.
What if I do not approve the photos?
Every dollar back. No restocking fees, no return freight charges.
Why cheaper than dealer new?
Used OEM from low-mileage donors. Same Mercedes engineering, fraction of the cost.
When can I reach customer service?
Mon-Sat, 8:30 AM – 10:30 PM Eastern.
