Kia's engine catalog is shared with sister-brand Hyundai across the entire Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) lineup — the 2.4L Theta II in a 2015 Optima is the same long-block as the one in a 2015 Hyundai Sonata, and the 3.5L Lambda in a Telluride shares architecture with the Hyundai Palisade. That cross-brand sharing is great for parts and price, but Kia owners share the same known issues: the Theta II 2.0T and 2.4L GDI rod-bearing recall/class-action (spanning roughly 2011–2018 model years) is the single biggest thing to verify on any Theta II purchase. The post-2020 Smartstream 2.5T is architecturally different from the Theta II 2.0T it replaced — not a drop-in.
Our 400+ Kia engines all come from low-mileage donor vehicles, cataloged by VIN, and held in our climate-controlled warehouse pending sale. Each unit clears our six-step process: VIN-matched to donor and target, ASE-certified compression test on every cylinder, leak-down evaluation, run-stand noise & smoke verification, full visual inspection, multi-angle photographs sent for your approval, and palletized freight shipping. Every Theta II 2.0T and 2.4L GDI unit gets an extra rod-bearing inspection and we verify the Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) software update status against the donor VIN.
You pay a fraction of dealer-new pricing for identical HMG engineering, ship free on a heavy-duty pallet to any address in the continental U.S., and you have 30 days from delivery to return for any reason — no restocking fees, no return freight charges. Up to a 3-year warranty covers you after install, and our six-step inspection has held our fitment-related return rate at 0% across 100,000+ Engines+Transmissions In Stock.

Kia Engine Buying Guide
Five things to verify before buying a used Kia engine:
Theta II 2.0T & 2.4L GDI: verify KSDS status and rod-bearing history. The Theta II family (Optima, Sorento, Sportage — roughly 2011–2018) is subject to a long-running rod-bearing class action. Kia and Hyundai issued a Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) software update and extended powertrain warranty on affected units. Always verify the donor VIN's KSDS update status and any prior engine-replacement history before purchase.
Theta II 2.0T vs Smartstream 2.5T: NOT interchangeable. The Smartstream 2.5T (2020+ K5 GT, Sorento X-Line, Stinger 2.5T) replaced the Theta II 2.0T in these applications but is a fundamentally different engine — dual injection (port + direct) instead of GDI-only, redesigned block, different accessory drive. Do not order a Theta II 2.0T thinking it will bolt into a 2021+ K5 GT.
Lambda II 3.3T Twin-Turbo requires HPFP and turbo verification. The 3.3T (Stinger GT, K900 3.3T) is a strong performer but the high-pressure fuel pump and twin turbos are wear items on high-mileage donors. We inspect both on every unit — ask for the report before purchase.
GDI carbon buildup is expected on high-mileage Nu 2.0, Gamma 1.6T, and Lambda 3.3T. All GDI Kia engines (2011+ Nu 2.0L, 2014+ Gamma 1.6T, all Lambda II 3.3T) accumulate intake-valve carbon over 80–100K miles. This is not a defect and doesn't affect long-block condition, but it should be walnut-blasted at install for best result. We disclose donor mileage so you can plan accordingly.
Hybrid engines (Kappa 1.6L, Smartstream 1.6T Hybrid) are tied to year-specific hybrid hardware. Niro Hybrid, Sorento Hybrid, Sportage Hybrid, older Optima Hybrid — the gas engine, motor-generator, inverter, and transmission are all matched by model year and cannot be mixed. Confirm your donor year matches your vehicle exactly, or plan to swap the hybrid system as a set.
Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any engine ships.

Practical guides from our team — how to install a used Kia engine, what to check on delivery, and what really matters when buying online.
Up to 3 years, depending on the specific unit. The exact warranty term is listed on each product page.
What does ASE-tested mean?
ASE-certified technicians compression-test every cylinder and run leak-down evaluation on engines. Plus noise & smoke verification, visual inspection, and multi-angle photography before shipment.
How long until delivery?
Prep and ship time is 3-5 business days. Transit time is 2-3 business days after dispatch via freight carrier.
Can I see photos before I buy?
Yes. Multi-angle photos of the actual unit sent before payment.
Do I need my VIN?
Strongly recommended for exact-fit matching. Kia engines vary significantly by trim, body style, and year.
What if I do not approve the photos?
Every dollar back. No restocking fees, no return freight charges.
Why cheaper than dealer new?
Used OEM from low-mileage donors. Same Kia engineering, fraction of the cost.
Every Kia engine you buy earns rewards. 10 orders (yours or referred) = $500 cash credit. Silver, Gold, and Platinum tiers with discounts, priority support, and private inventory access.
Every Kia engine we ship has been through these six steps:
1. VIN-Matching
We match the donor VIN to your VIN to confirm engine code, emissions calibration, and drivetrain fit.
2. Tested & Verified
ASE-certified technicians compression-test every cylinder and run leak-down evaluation on each engine. Transmissions are Shift-Tested through all gears.
3. Noise & Smoke Verification
Engines are run on the test stand to verify normal mechanical sound, clean exhaust, and no abnormal smoke — catches internal wear static pressure tests miss.
4. Visual Inspection
Every accessible component is inspected: turbos, manifolds, valve covers, accessories, sensor harnesses.
5. Photograph & Catalog
Multi-angle photos sent to you BEFORE we ship for your approval.
6. Palletize & Ship
Strapped on a heavy-duty wooden pallet, shipped via freight at no charge.
Our Photos-Before-Shipment Guarantee
Before any engine leaves our warehouse, we dismantle the donor unit and send you multi-angle photographs. You approve. If you do not approve, you get every dollar back — no questions, no restocking fees, no return freight charges. On top of 30-day money-back and up to 3-year warranty.
