Why Buy a Used Fiat Engine from Auto Power Source
Fiat sold four engine families in the US under the 500 name — the naturally aspirated 1.4L MultiAir of the 500, the 1.4L MultiAir Turbo of the 500 Turbo, Abarth, 500L and 500X, the 2.4L Tigershark of the 500X automatic, and the electric drive of the 500e. Hollander files many Fiat lines under all three names (500, 500L, 500X), so every product on this page is matched by its fitment words: 2 Dr is the 500, L Model or 4 Dr the 500L, X Model the 500X. Every product is titled by displacement, VIN 8th digit, engine ID, body and gearbox where the line names them. Our 53 verified Fiat engines cover the whole run from 2012 to 2017.
Every Fiat engine we sell has been pulled from a low-mileage donor vehicle, cataloged by VIN, and held in our climate-controlled warehouse pending sale. Each unit goes through our six-step inspection — VIN-matching against the donor and against your vehicle, compression and leak-down testing of every cylinder, noise verification, full visual inspection of block, head and timing cover, multi-angle photography for your approval, and palletized freight. 1.4L MultiAir Turbo units get a turbo-shaft and oil-feed inspection. Rejected units never reach the buyer.
You pay a fraction of dealer-new pricing for the same Fiat engineering, ship free on a heavy-duty pallet anywhere in the continental U.S., and have 30 days from delivery to return for any reason — no restocking fees. The warranty printed on the listing — with extended coverage up to 3 years available — covers you if anything goes wrong after install. Across 100K+ engines and transmissions in stock, we hold a 0% fitment-related return rate.
Your Fiat Engine Options: Compared
Most Fiat owners face four real choices when the engine fails:
← Swipe sideways to see all columns →
| Option | Cost | Reliability | Warranty | Fitment Match |
| Used OEM (this collection) | $$$ Best Value | High — tested | Included | VIN-matched |
| New OEM (dealer) | $$$$$ 2-4× more | High | Manufacturer | Exact |
| Aftermarket / Reman | $$$$ | Varies | 6-12 mo | May adapt |
| Junkyard | $ Cheapest | Unknown | None | DIY |
Tested used OEM hits the sweet spot — same engineering as new, fraction of the cost.
Fiat Engine Buying Guide
5 things to verify before buying a used Fiat engine:
- Match the car first — Hollander files the 500, 500L and 500X lines under all three names. The fitment words tell you the real car: 2 Dr is the 500, L Model or 4 Dr the 500L, X Model the 500X. A listing titled 500L that says 2 Dr is a 500 part. Match the fitment words, then the displacement.
- 1.4L MultiAir and 1.4L MultiAir Turbo are different engines. The 8th character of the VIN tells them apart: R is the naturally aspirated 1.4L of the 500 Pop, Easy, Sport and Lounge, H the turbo of the 500 Turbo, Abarth, 500L and 500X manual. Every listing names the VIN code — match it to yours, not to the badge.
- On the 500X, the engine follows the gearbox. In 2016–2017 the 500X ran the 1.4L MultiAir Turbo with the manual and the 2.4L Tigershark with the automatic, FWD or AWD. Every listing says 1.4L or 2.4L.
- On the 500L, check the automatic type. The engine lines are split the same way as the gearboxes — MT, dry-clutch automatic (opt DA1) or torque-converter automatic (opt DF4). The option code is on your build sheet, or we read it from your VIN.
- Confirm the match with your own VIN before you order. Your VIN settles the car, engine code and gearbox in one step. Text it to +1-307-441-5554 and we will confirm in writing exactly which unit fits your vehicle before you pay.
Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any unit ships.
