Why Buy a Used Cadillac Transmission from Auto Power Source
Cadillac covers more mechanical ground than any other GM brand. At one end sit shared body-on-frame truck automatics — the 4L60-E, 4L80-E, 6L80, and 8L90 that make an Escalade mechanically a Tahoe or Suburban. At the other end sits genuinely bespoke hardware: the 4T80-E was engineered specifically around the Northstar V8 for DeVille, DTS, Seville, and Eldorado, and the V-Series line runs the 10L90, the Tremec TR-6060, and — in Gen 2 CTS-V — a ZF 8HP70 sourced before GM had its own 8-speed. In between are the transverse transaxles (6T70, 6T75, 9T50) for SRX, XTS, and the XT line.
Every Cadillac transmission we sell has been pulled from a low-mileage donor, cataloged by VIN, and held in our climate-controlled warehouse. Each unit goes through our six-step inspection: VIN-matching, ASE Shift-Testing through every gear under load, noise verification, full visual inspection of case, pan, and bellhousing, multi-angle photography, and palletized freight shipping. The 9T50 gets TCM calibration-revision verification, and TR-6060 units get gearset and synchro inspection under load. Rejected units never reach the buyer.
You pay a fraction of dealer-new pricing for the same GM engineering, ship free on a heavy-duty pallet anywhere in the continental U.S., and you have 30 days from delivery to return for any reason — no restocking fees. Up to a 3-year warranty covers you if anything goes wrong after install, and our six-step inspection has held our fitment-related return rate at 0% across 100,000+ shipments.

Cadillac Transmission Buying Guide
Cadillac shares much of its catalog with the rest of GM but also carries units built for it alone, so matching runs on RPO code, drivetrain architecture, and output level. Five things to verify before buying a used Cadillac transmission:
-
Match on the RPO code, not the badge or the trim. The RPO (Regular Production Option) code identifies the exact unit GM built into your car. An Escalade and a Silverado of the same year can carry the same transmission, while two CTS of the same year can carry different ones depending on engine and trim. Send us the RPO or the VIN.
-
8L90 vs 10L90 vs ZF 8HP70 — three different multi-speed autos, not one family. The 8L90 is the volume GM 8-speed from 2014. The 10L90 is the high-output 10-speed for CT5-V Blackwing, Escalade-V, and CT6. Gen 2 CTS-V (2009–2015) used a ZF 8HP70 in select applications, which is a ZF unit and not GM hardware at all. Different converters, valve bodies, and control calibration — never cross-shop on model year.
-
The 4T80-E is the Northstar transaxle and swaps with nothing else. Built specifically around the Northstar V8 for DeVille, DTS, Seville, STS, and Eldorado. It shares no case, bellhousing, or final drive with the 4T65-E or any 6T-series transaxle. If your car has a Northstar, this is the unit — confirm before ordering anything else.
-
Longitudinal RWD and transverse transaxles never cross-fit. Escalade, CTS, CT5, CT6, and ATS run longitudinal units (8L90, 10L90, 6L80, 4L60-E, 4L80-E). SRX, XTS, XT4, XT5, and XT6 run transverse transaxles (6T70, 6T75, 9T50) with the differential integrated into the case. Match by chassis architecture, not by model year overlap.
-
V-Series manuals: TR-6060 and AY6 are different torque classes. The Tremec TR-6060 sits behind the supercharged CTS-V V8; the Aisin AY6 sits behind the ATS V6. They are not alternatives to each other. If you are replacing a CTS-V manual, only a TR-6060 rated for that output will do the job.
Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any transmission ships.
