2014 Used BMW Transmissions For Sale

188 verified used 2014 BMW transmissions in stock — the longitudinal ZF 8HP Steptronic in xDrive form (X1 35iX, X3 28iX/35iX, X5, X6, 320i to 750Li xDrive, Alpina B7) and rear-drive form (228i to 750Li RWD, X1 28i, X5 3.0L RWD, Z4 sDrive28i), the ZF and Getrag 6-speed manuals in both cases, the 7-speed M dual-clutch behind the M5 and M6, the 6-speed M Sport automatic in the X6 M, the GA8P70H in the ActiveHybrid 3 and 5, and the i3 and i8 reduction units. On BMW, drive type decides fitment more than displacement does, so xDrive and rear-drive cases are listed separately. Every unit is VIN-matched, ASE Shift-Tested through every gear under load, photographed before shipment, and backed by a 6-month warranty with extended coverage up to 3 years. Free freight, 30-day money-back.

Why Buy a 2014 BMW Transmission from Auto Power Source

2014 is one of the widest model years BMW ever ran in the United States, and the transmission catalogue shows it. The F22 2-Series and F32/F33 4-Series arrived, the F15 X5 replaced the E70, the 3-Series Gran Turismo and the 535d joined the range, the i3 and i8 went on sale, and the E71 X6 M ran its final year on a 6-speed M Sport automatic while everything around it had moved to the 8HP. Six distinct transmission architectures are listed on this page.

The split that actually decides fitment is xDrive against rear-drive. The ZF 8HP is built in an xDrive case and a rear-drive case with different housings and output arrangements, and they do not swap in either direction — so a 535i xDrive unit will not go into a rear-drive 535i however closely the badges match. The 6-speed manuals split the same way. We list the two cases as separate families for that reason, and match yours from the VIN rather than the title.

Every 2014 BMW transmission here is pulled from a low-mileage donor vehicle, cleaned, and Shift-Tested by ASE-certified technicians through every gear under load. On the 8HP units the Mechatronic sleeve and valve body are inspected, on the manuals the synchros and bearings, and on the M dual-clutch the actuator. Each unit is photographed before it leaves, ships with free freight and a 6-month warranty, and is covered by 30-day money-back.

Your 2014 BMW Transmission Options: Compared

Most 2014 BMW owners face four real choices when the transmission fails:

← Swipe sideways to see all columns →
Option Cost Reliability Warranty Fitment Match
Used OEM (this collection) $$$ Best Value High — tested Included VIN-matched
New OEM (dealer) $$$$$ 2-4× more High Manufacturer Exact
Aftermarket / Reman $$$$ Varies 6-12 mo May adapt
Junkyard $ Cheapest Unknown None DIY

Tested used OEM hits the sweet spot — same engineering as new, fraction of the cost.

2014 BMW Transmission Buying Guide

5 things to verify before buying a used 2014 BMW transmission:

  1. Settle xDrive versus rear-drive first. On 2014 BMWs this is the decision that matters most, and it matters on the manuals as well as the automatics. The ZF 8HP comes in an xDrive case (X1 35iX, X3 28iX/35iX, X5 AWD, X6 xDrive35i/50i, 320i to 750Li xDrive, Alpina B7) and a rear-drive case (228i to 750Li RWD, X1 28i, X5 3.0L RWD, Z4) with different housings and output arrangements. The 6-speed manuals split the same way. None of these swap. Tell us the drive type or send the VIN and we will settle it.
  2. Most of the 2014 range splits on a mid-year build date. The 3-, 5- and 7-Series lines split either side of 31 July 2013, the 535i and 535i GT again on 1 November 2013, and the 435i and 335i on 1 October 2013; the X3 35iX splits on automatic stop-start and the X5 3.0L on an October 2013 change. The 335i GT and 435i also split on the Sport transmission option. That split is part of the fitment, not a note — the units carry different calibrations and are not interchangeable.
  3. The M5, M6 and X6 M are their own parts, not tuned 8HPs. The 2014 M5, M6 and M6 Gran Coupe use the 7-speed GS7D36SG dual-clutch, a fundamentally different unit from any torque-converter automatic in the range. The X6 M is the odd one out in the other direction: it is the final year of the E71 and runs a 6-speed ZF-based M Sport automatic, not the 8-speed. If your car is an M or an Alpina, say so up front — a 550i xDrive or 650i unit is not a substitute in either direction.
  4. Treat the ActiveHybrid, i3 and i8 as their own parts, and on any 8HP ask about the Mechatronic sleeve. The ActiveHybrid 3 and ActiveHybrid 5 use the GA8P70H with the electric motor integrated into the bellhousing; a conventional 328i or 535i unit will not substitute in either direction. The i3 and i3 REx rear unit and the i8 front axle are reduction gears, not gearboxes, and interchange with nothing else here. Separately, the Mechatronic unit is the most common failure point on BMW's 8-speed family, and every 8HP we list is inspected there before it ships.
  5. Confirm the match with your own VIN before you order. Your VIN settles the transmission architecture, the case, the drive type and the build split in one step — which matters on 2014 in particular, where three model lines are brand new and most of the rest split mid-year. Text it to +1-307-441-5554 and we will confirm in writing exactly which unit fits your vehicle before you pay.

Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any unit ships.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the warranty on a used 2014 BMW transmission?
Every 2014 BMW transmission ships with a 6-month warranty included, printed on each product page. Extended coverage of up to 3 years is available at checkout.
What does ASE-tested mean on a transmission?
ASE-certified technicians Shift-Test every gear under load and check for clean engagement, no slipping and no abnormal noise. On ZF 8HP units the Mechatronic sleeve and valve body are inspected; on the manuals the synchros and bearings; on the M dual-clutch the actuator. Plus full visual inspection and photography before shipment.
Will a 328i transmission fit my 2014 X5?
Only if the drive type matches, and often not even then. A 328i xDrive uses the xDrive ZF 8HP case and a rear-drive 328i the rear-drive case, with a different housing and output arrangement, and the new F15 X5 runs its own calibration. Send your VIN and we will match the case.
Is the 2014 X1 transmission the same as the 2016 X1?
No. The 2014 X1 is the E84, a longitudinal rear-drive-based car running the ZF 8HP. The 2016 X1 is the F48, a front-drive-based platform with a transverse Aisin 8-speed. The two share nothing — not the case, not the mounts, not the control unit.
Why does the 2014 X6 M use a 6-speed when everything else is an 8-speed?
2014 is the final year of the E71 X6 M, and it kept the 6-speed ZF-based M Sport automatic throughout its run while the rest of the range moved to the 8HP. An 8-speed unit from an xDrive50i is not a substitute, and the X6 M unit will not go into a standard X6.
Do you stock 2014 BMW manual transmissions?
Yes — 12 of the 188 units listed here are 6-speed manuals, split evenly into rear-drive and xDrive cases. The 4-cylinder cars (228i, 328i, 328d, 428i) use the ZF GS6-17BG, the 435i the Getrag GS6-45BZ and the 650i the GS6-53BZ. The xDrive manual case is not interchangeable with the rear-drive one.
Some 2014 listings show a fuel type that does not match the badge. Which is right?
Several 328d and 535d rows carry a gasoline token and a few 328i and 535i rows a diesel one. Both diesels run the longitudinal ZF 8HP on their own calibration, so the drive type still settles the case, but the VIN settles the calibration — send it and we will confirm rather than go by the title.
