Mercedes Transmissions We Cover

Real transmissions from our warehouse, VIN-matched and ready to ship. Mercedes runs its own in-house transmission families — the 722.x and 725.0 automatics, the 724.0 7G-DCT, and the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT and DCT variants. Establishing which family your car uses is the single biggest fitment decision on this brand.

Used Mercedes 7G-Tronic 722.9 7-Speed RWD transmission
7G-Tronic 722.9 7-Speed RWD
C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, CLS, ML, GL (2004–2016). The highest-volume Mercedes automatic in our inventory — conductor plate condition is the check that matters.
Used Mercedes 9G-Tronic 725.0 9-Speed RWD transmission
9G-Tronic 725.0 9-Speed RWD
C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLE, GLC, CLS (2014+). Different bellhousing, TCM and fluid spec from the 722.9 — not a substitute for it.
Used Mercedes 5G-Tronic 722.6 5-Speed RWD transmission
5G-Tronic 722.6 5-Speed RWD
C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, ML, SLK (1996–2008). Also licensed to Chrysler and Jeep as the NAG1 — same internals, different TCM calibration.
Used Mercedes AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-Speed transmission
AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-Speed
E63, S63, CLS63, ML63, GL63, SL63, SL65 AMG (2009–2018). A wet-clutch torque-converter automatic paired with M156 and M157 — not the DCT despite the shared name.
Used Mercedes AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-Speed transmission
AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-Speed
SLS AMG, AMG GT (2010+). A true dual-clutch transaxle in longitudinal RWD supercar layout — entirely different hardware from the MCT.
Used Mercedes 4MATIC transfer case
4MATIC Transfer Case
All 4MATIC AWD applications. Chassis-specific and paired to a particular transmission family — a W211 case will not adapt to a W205.
Used Mercedes 716.6 6-Speed Manual transmission
716.6 6-Speed Manual
C-Class, E-Class and SLK manual variants (2000–2014). Limited US production, so enthusiast demand keeps supply tight.
Used Mercedes 7G-DCT 724.0 dual-clutch transmission
7G-DCT 724.0 Dual-Clutch
CLA, GLA, A-Class non-AMG (2013+). A seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle for the transverse MFA platform — distinct from the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT.
Used Mercedes AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-Speed transmission
AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-Speed
E63 S, GLE63, GLS63, AMG GT 4-Door (2017+). The current-generation AMG wet-clutch automatic, paired with the M177 twin-turbo V8.
Used Mercedes Classic 722.3 / 722.4 4-Speed automatic transmission
Classic 722.3 / 722.4 4-Speed
300-series, 400-series and classic-era S-Class (1980–1996). Multiple internal calibrations across the production run — match by chassis and year.
Used Mercedes G56 6-Speed Manual diesel transmission
G56 6-Speed Manual Diesel
Sprinter and Dodge/Ram Cummins diesel applications. Mercedes-built heavy-duty diesel manual — also listed on our Ram transmissions page.

Why Buy a Used Mercedes Transmission from Auto Power Source

Mercedes transmissions are almost entirely in-house designs — the 722.x and 725.0 automatic families are engineered and built by Mercedes rather than sourced from ZF like most BMW and Audi units. That means the 722.9 seven-speed and 725.0 nine-speed have Mercedes-specific TCM calibration, conductor plates and fluid specs that do not cross to other brands even where the case looks similar. The 722.6 5G-Tronic is the one major exception: it was licensed to Chrysler and Jeep as the NAG1, but with completely different TCM calibration. A 722.6 pulled from an E-Class will physically bolt into a Grand Cherokee, and vice versa, but the shift logic and gear ratios will not be right without addressing the TCM.

Every Mercedes transmission we sell has been pulled from a low-mileage donor vehicle, cataloged by VIN, and held in our climate-controlled warehouse. Each unit went through our six-step inspection — VIN-matching, Shift-Testing through every gear under load, noise and smoke verification, full visual inspection, multi-angle photography, and palletized shipping. 7G-Tronic 722.9 units get an additional conductor plate inspection at the 13-pin connector; that is the most common failure point on the seven-speed family, and we flag any unit showing leakage or slow gear engagement. Rejected units never reach the buyer.

You pay a fraction of dealer-new pricing for identical Mercedes engineering, ship free on a heavy-duty pallet anywhere in the continental U.S., and get 30 days from delivery to return for any reason — no restocking fees. The warranty printed on the listing — with extended coverage up to 3 years available — covers you if anything goes wrong after install. Across 100K+ engines and transmissions in stock, we hold a 0% fitment-related return rate.

Your Mercedes Transmission Options: Compared

Most Mercedes owners face four real choices when the transmission fails:

← Swipe sideways to see all columns →
Option Cost Reliability Warranty Fitment Match
Used OEM (this collection) $$$ Best Value High — tested Included VIN-matched
New OEM (dealer) $$$$$ 2-4× more High Manufacturer Exact
Rebuilt / Reman $$$$ Varies 6-12 mo May adapt
Junkyard $ Cheapest Unknown None DIY

Tested used OEM hits the sweet spot — same engineering as new, fraction of the cost.

Mercedes Transmission Buying Guide

Mercedes runs at least seven distinct transmission families across its US lineup, and they are not cross-compatible even where the case looks similar. 5 things to verify before buying:

  1. Identify your family by the 722.x / 724.x / 725.x code. Mercedes stamps the transmission code on the case tag and references it in the VIN data block. The 722.6 (5G-Tronic), 722.9 (7G-Tronic), 725.0 (9G-Tronic) and 724.0 (7G-DCT) serve different generations and are not interchangeable. Send your full VIN and we will confirm the code before quoting.
  2. AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT and DCT are different transmissions. Despite the shared SPEEDSHIFT name, the MCT is a wet-clutch torque-converter automatic (E63, S63, CLS63, ML63, GL63) while the DCT is a true dual-clutch transaxle (SLS AMG, AMG GT). Different case layouts, different mounting, different service procedures.
  3. On 4MATIC vehicles, transfer case and transmission must match. Mercedes 4MATIC transfer cases are chassis-specific and paired to a particular transmission family. A case from a W211 E-Class will not adapt to a W205 C-Class even though both are 4MATIC. Verify chassis, transmission code and transfer-case part number together.
  4. A Chrysler or Jeep NAG1 is not a drop-in for a 722.6. The NAG1 shares the case, gear ratios and mechanical internals, but Chrysler used a different TCM calibration. It will bolt in, but the shift logic and torque converter lockup will be wrong — source a Mercedes-specific 722.6 rather than a NAG1.
  5. Fluid spec is not interchangeable across generations. The 722.9 7G-Tronic takes MB 236.14; the 725.0 9G-Tronic takes MB 236.15. Using the wrong one causes shift quality problems and long-term wear. Plan to replace the fluid at install with the correct spec.

Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any unit ships.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the warranty on a used Mercedes transmission?
Every Mercedes transmission ships with a warranty included — the standard term follows the model year (1 month for 1990, 3 months for 1991–2000, 6 months for 2001 and newer) and is printed on each product page. Extended coverage of up to 3 years is available at checkout.
What does Shift-Tested mean?
ASE-certified technicians Shift-Test every transmission through all forward and reverse gears under load, verify clutch and lockup engagement, and check for leaks and pan debris before any unit ships. 722.9 units get an additional conductor plate inspection.
How long until delivery?
Prep and ship time is 3-5 business days. Transit time is 2-3 business days after dispatch via freight carrier — typically 5-8 business days from order to delivery.
Can I see photos before I buy?
Yes. Multi-angle photos of the actual unit are sent before payment. If you do not approve the photos, you get every dollar back — no restocking fees, no return freight charges.
Do I need my VIN?
Yes — essential on Mercedes. Transmissions vary by family (722.6, 722.9, 725.0, 724.0, AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT and DCT), by drivetrain (RWD versus 4MATIC), and by platform (longitudinal C/E/S/CLS/GL versus transverse CLA/GLA/A). Your VIN decodes the exact transmission code — text it to +1-307-441-5554.
Is a Chrysler or Jeep NAG1 the same as a 722.6?
Mechanically yes, electronically no. Mercedes licensed the 722.6 to Chrysler and Jeep as the NAG1 with identical case, ratios and internals, but different TCM calibration. A NAG1 will bolt into a Mercedes but the shift logic and torque converter lockup will be wrong. Source a Mercedes-specific 722.6.
Why cheaper than dealer new?
Used OEM from low-mileage donor vehicles. Same Mercedes engineering as factory new at a fraction of the cost — dealers are typically 2-4x our pricing, and many older units are no longer available new at all.

Our 6-Step Inspection & Shipping Process

Every Mercedes transmission we ship has been through these six steps:

1. VIN-Matching
We match the donor VIN to your VIN to confirm transmission code, drivetrain (RWD/4MATIC), platform, and bellhousing fitment.
2. Tested & Verified
ASE-certified technicians Shift-Test every gear under load, checking for clean engagement, no slipping, and no abnormal noise. 722.9 units get a conductor plate inspection.
3. Noise & Smoke Verification
Units are run to verify normal mechanical sound and clean operation — catches internal wear static tests miss.
4. Visual Inspection
Every accessible component is inspected: bellhousing, output shaft, solenoid pack, conductor plate, cooler lines, sensor harnesses.
5. Photograph & Catalog
Multi-angle photos sent to you BEFORE we ship for your approval.
6. Palletize & Ship
