2000 Used GMC Transmissions For Sale

133 tested 2000 GMC transmissions, sorted the way GM built them — by RPO option code. 2000 is the overlap year: the all-new GMT800 Sierra 1500 and Sierra 2500 were sold beside the carryover Classic-body C/K 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty pickups, and the two generations share almost nothing. Text your VIN and we confirm the exact unit in writing.

Why Buy a 2000 GMC Transmission from Auto Power Source

Every 2000 GMC transmission here is a used OEM unit pulled from a low-mileage donor vehicle, cleaned, inspected and bench-tested before it is listed. We hold 133 of them for the 2000 model year alone, which is why we can name the exact box rather than offer you a generic four-speed and hope it bolts up.

2000 is the hardest GMC year to shop by nameplate, because GM was running two truck generations at once. The new GMT800 Sierra 1500 and Sierra 2500 had arrived while the heavy-duty pickups carried on in the old Classic body as C2500, K2500, C3500, C3500HD and K3500. A 2000 three-quarter-ton is therefore either a GMT800 Sierra 2500 on a 6.0L or a Classic C/K 2500 on a 5.7L, 7.4L or 6.5L diesel, and the two do not share a gearbox fitment.

The headline trap is the Yukon XL. 2000 is the first model year for the name, and the listings carry no displacement at all — just 4x2 or 4x4. A Yukon XL 1500 is a half-ton on the 4L60E; a Yukon XL 2500 is a three-quarter-ton on the 4L80E. Same badge wording, same body, different box, because the chassis decides. We match the donor VIN to your VIN so the right one ships.

Two things that are true of 2001 and later are not true here, and both cost people money. There is no Allison 1000 in a 2000 GMC — it arrives for 2001 — so every heavy-duty automatic on this page is a 4L80E. And there is no 4L65E yet either, so every half-ton automatic is a 4L60E regardless of displacement. A 2001 unit is not a drop-in substitute.

Manual trucks need the same care. 2000 holds three boxes: the NV1500 behind the 2.2L compacts, the NV3500 behind the 4.3L compacts and the half-ton Sierra, and the NV4500 in the Classic C/K 2500 and 3500. Two GMT800 Sierra 2500 6.0L manuals name no box at all, so we read the VIN before anything ships.

Shipping is free to the lower 48, every unit carries our warranty, and an ASE-certified technician confirms the match against your VIN in writing before you pay. Text +1-307-441-5554, email info@autopowersource.com or call 1-877-313-8995.

Your 2000 GMC Transmission Options: Compared

Most 2000 GMC owners face four real choices when the transmission fails:

← Swipe sideways to see all columns →
Option Cost Reliability Warranty Fitment Match
Used OEM (this collection) $$$ Best Value High — tested Included VIN-matched
New OEM (dealer) $$$$$ 2-4× more High Manufacturer Exact
Aftermarket / Reman $$$$ Varies 6-12 mo May adapt
Junkyard $ Cheapest Unknown None DIY

Tested used OEM hits the sweet spot — same engineering as new, fraction of the cost.

2000 GMC Transmission Buying Guide

5 things to verify before buying a used 2000 GMC transmission:

  1. Settle the body style first. A 2000 GMC heavy-duty pickup is either a Classic-body C/K 2500 or 3500 or a new GMT800 Sierra 2500, and the two are different trucks sharing a model year. The Classic trucks run 5.7L and 7.4L gas or a 6.5L Turbo Diesel; the GMT800 2500 runs the 6.0L Vortec. Get this right before anything else.
  2. The Yukon XL splits by weight rating, not displacement. A Yukon XL 1500 takes the 4L60E and a Yukon XL 2500 takes the 4L80E, and the listings name no engine for either. The door-jamb label and the build sheet settle it; the tailgate badge does not.
  3. Do not shop a 2000 as if it were a 2001. The Allison 1000 and the 4L65E both arrive for 2001, and the 8.1L Vortec replaces the 7.4L in the same year. Every heavy-duty automatic on this page is a 4L80E and every half-ton automatic is a 4L60E. A 2001 unit will not simply drop in.
  4. Read the Savana option code, not the displacement. A 4.3L or 5.7L Savana can be either a 4L60E van (Opt M30) or a 4L80E van (Opt MT1) — same body, same engine, different gearbox. The option code in the listing is the only thing that separates them, so we quote from it.
  5. Confirm the match with your own VIN before you order. Your VIN settles the transmission code, drivetrain and build split in one step. Text it to +1-307-441-5554 and we will confirm in writing exactly which unit fits your vehicle before you pay.

Our ASE-certified technicians verify every one of these points against your VIN before any unit ships.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many 2000 GMC transmissions do you have in stock?
133 tested units across 12 transmission families, from the 4L60E in a Sonoma to the NV4500 behind a 7.4L Classic-body K3500. Live stock, counted active only — never a catalogue listing.
What transmission is in a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500?
The 4L60E on every automatic, whether the engine is the 4.3L V6, the 4.8L or the 5.3L — 2000 predates the 4L65E, so displacement does not change the box on a half-ton. The manual trucks run the NV3500.
Is there an Allison 1000 in a 2000 GMC?
No. GM launched the Allison 1000 for 2001, alongside the 6.6L Duramax and the 8.1L Vortec. Every heavy-duty automatic in the 2000 model year is a 4L80E, so an Allison unit is not a substitute and a 2000 unit will not go into a 2001 Duramax truck.
What is the difference between a C2500 and a Sierra 2500 in 2000?
They are two different trucks sold in the same year. The C2500 and K2500 are the carryover Classic body on a 5.7L, 7.4L or 6.5L diesel; the Sierra 2500 is the new GMT800 truck on the 6.0L Vortec. Both use a 4L80E automatic, but the bellhousing, wiring and mounting are not shared, so we confirm the body style from the VIN.
Does a Yukon XL 1500 use the same transmission as a Yukon XL 2500?
No. The XL 1500 is a half-ton on the 4L60E and the XL 2500 is a three-quarter-ton on the 4L80E. 2000 is the first year for the Yukon XL name and the listings carry no displacement, so the weight rating is what you need to confirm.
Why do you list both a C3500 and a C3500HD with the same specifications?
Because our supplier catalogue does. Both nameplates carry an identical set of fifteen specifications for 2000 (the same 5.7L, 7.4L and diesel rows, the same 3500 HD and Exc. 3500 HD splits) and the K3500 repeats fourteen of them. We show the stock honestly rather than merge the nameplates, and your VIN tells us which pool your truck sits in.
My Sierra 2500 is a 6.0L manual and the listing names no gearbox. What do I do?
Send us the VIN. Two of our 2000 Sierra 2500 manual units are listed without a box, and a 6.0L GMT800 2500 could leave the plant with either an NV4500 or a ZF S6-650 (Opt MW3). We confirm which one in writing before you pay rather than guess from the badge.
What does the warranty cover and how fast does it ship?
Every unit on this page carries our standard warranty and ships free to the lower 48. Most 2000 units leave the yard within one to three business days of your order being confirmed. Call 1-877-313-8995, text +1-307-441-5554 or email info@autopowersource.com.
