On a 4X2 3.6L 1500, find your axle ratio. This is the 2015 mistake. The 4X2 3.6L Truck 1500 Series is cataloged three times for this year — 3.21, 3.55 and 3.92 Axle Ratio — and the axle ratio is the only thing separating those three listings. Same year, same displacement, same drivetrain. It is not printed on the outside of the truck; it is on the build sticker and it follows from the VIN. Order on displacement alone here and you have a one-in-three chance of being right.

On a 3500, find out who built your gearbox. Ram cataloged the same 2015 3500 with either an Aisin Seiki unit — AS69RC behind the 6.7L, AS66RC behind the 6.4L Chassis Cab — or a Chrysler-built one, 68RFE on the 6.7L and 66RFE on the 6.4L.
